According to LeBrun in this video segement:

Dorion is now aware of this clarification, so it sounds like GMs also interpreted it incorrectly

It boggles my mind how a guy like James Neal can put up decent numbers while Yakupov is having a hard time staying in the league.
I wouldn't be opposed to signing Yak to a cheap deal, but it would pretty much mean that you'd almost have to put him with Johnny and Sean. They do all the work and Yak's only job is to put the puck in the net at the very end.
I actually think he'd be a pretty decent winger for Bennett as well, they're both very north south players

Chris Kuc @ChrisKuc
Source: #Blackhawks have communicated with free-agent defenseman Karl Alzner's camp.
Would take some shuffling to make that happen.

Interesting the Devils didn't give Mirco Mueller a QO after trading a 2nd + 4th for him. I assume they are confident they will sign him or on the verge of signing him, otherwise it is a massive mistake.
edit: nevermind. apparently now reports that the Sharks had qualified Mueller before the trade and it is still valid after the trade, so not a mistake.

Was he arbitration eligible? this may very well be the reason why he wasn't qualified and the GM is confident they will be able to sign him before July 1.
Edit: Thanks for clarifying sureLoss

Another former high draft pick potential reclamation project: Mikhail Grigorenko was not given a qualifying offer by the Avs.

His QO would have only been $1.3 million. Colorado must have been leery of arbitration.

Random Orange Julius story:
In 2012, my brother-in-law visited us in Calgary to attend some games at the World Juniors. He ended up talking to some players from the Russian team, and he asked them who they thought was their best player. Kuznetsov and Yakupov were the big names at the time, but they surprised him when they both answered Grigorenko.

I agree, he could be an Oiler killer if he can get his groove back.

Well the Avs are idiots so their decisions mean nothing, and they've been the kings of underperformance which is a drag on anyones development.
If we're talking reclamation projects, I wouldn't mind Grigorenko at all.

To be fair, Daigle did lead come back after washing out of the league and he even managed to lead Minnesota in scoring for a year.
Yakupov has talent. A guy like Bouma has none and he managed to score 34 points beside Backlund.
Gaudreau-Monahan-Brouwer
Yakupov-Backlund-Frolik
Tkachuk-Bennett-Ferland
Stajan-Jankowski-Lazar/Chiasson/Versteeg
Familton/Bouma
seems like it could work pretty well to me.

Yeah, I would definitely be curious about what Grigorenko might be able to do on a different team. It seemed like he never really saw eye to eye with coaching & management, which could have really held him back.
Yes, there were rumors of an attitude problem stretching back into Juniors, so that's probably on him, but Roy cannot have been easy to play under, and sometimes guys just need to learn the lesson the hard way and grow up.

It'd be really nice if everyone would stop trying to split up 3M. It's making my eyes bleed.

Yakupov would play RW. Most russians are taught and raised to play their off-wing.

For one to get their 'groove back' it implies that one at somepoint had a groove to begin with
