They had midnight showings of The Song Remains the Same all the time back in the day.

Studio 82 was the site of my weirdest concert experience. Jale, a band from Halifax consisting of three women and a man at the time, played a show at Studio 82, when it was still a bikini bar. This was probably around Fall 1996. You can tell the band was embarrassed to be there. And the band had to compete not only with the catcalling of the crowd, two-thirds of which were not there for the band, but also with all the noise from the VLTs in that place. The band and the audience who showed up to hear them play were pushed up against a corner. Just a weird vibe and I don't think anybody had a good time. They must have had a terrible promoter/manager. The band broke up soon after.

I saw Alien at the Odeon with my dad in original release. We had no idea what it was about - just looked like a cool space movie. I was 10.

Buck's Chocolate Chippery. TV Kid's Show host Ron "Buck Shot" Barge parlayed his local fame to run a cookie kiosk in a shopping mall. His kids rans it. Can't recall the mall. Might have been Chinook Centre or Brentwood.

The Hyland Theatre in Inglewood. A mix of Porn and Bollywood fare. Later rebooted as the Garry Theatre and a venue for Loose Moose comedy. Is now the Ironwood Club.

Speaking of loose moose, I remember standing in line at McCall inn on McKnight to see the shows regularly. Must have been 1983ish. There was a mini amp I theatre there. It had very much a SNL feel to it with regular characters and new skits. I want to imagine that some of the actors from loose moose went into kids in the hall...but time eh?

I remeber “hot nuts & popcorn” with Terry anf Deaner from Fubar. Must of been about 2000. The guy who plays Dean in Fubar was the host (not as Deaner), and Terry (as an early version of Fubar Terry) was the stagehand. I think it was the start of the Fubar idea. It was insanely funny. I even remember the guest that night, the local director for “way downtown”.

Amazing 17 or so years later I remember that night. Probably the best live show I ever saw.

Yeah, I loved Loose Moose in the late '80s. We were there almost every weekend. The theatre was an old cattle auction space I believe, which gave it that amphitheater feeling. Mark McKinney and Bruce McCulloch of KITH are both Loose Moose alumni.

I am quite certain I saw one of those shows too and one of the guests was everyone's favorite local media 'celebrity' Eric Francis. I am also pretty sure the host was taking shots at him the whole interview too, bringing up how his mom got him all his jobs and stuff. I don't think EF was in on the joke, but it was a long time ago. I kind of hope he wasn't.

Wasn't his name actually Maqbool Darr? I miss him getting bitten by a beaver on live TV.

He was really bad in his early days. My roommates and I used to watch him just to laugh at his screw ups.

Yes, I went to school with his daughter and her last name was Darr. He just used Darr Maqbool as his "Stage" name. I also went to school with Paul Dunphy's kid.

This is a great thread, I looked through it the other day and noticed it was started in 2010. nice to see it going strong. Anyone remember that restaurant/bar on Macleod Trail, Goldstein and Chans. Such a bizzare name, if I recall it was by Bullwinkles.
