Canmore Dining?
This may have been discussed on here years ago, but the Impaler family wants to explore Canmore, so where to eat? The tapas place and the Trough seem to be 1-2 on Trip Advisor - comments? We tried pizza at Rocky Mountain Flatbread - pretty 'meh'...
Thanks in advance.
P.S. Is there a Helna's Stube type gem to be found in Canmore?

Iron Goat is popular, but very average.

My German relatives that used to live in Canmore swear by Chez Francois as a decent french restaurant.

Crazy weed is fantastic, although I haven't been in a few years.
I thought the tapas place was quite good though, so what do I know?

i cant vouch for anything else on the menu, and this is a strange and not very fancy recommendation(its barely even food), but the wood had the best fries i've ever had in my life, bar none. i dont know what it was about them but i would go back there just for that

If you don't mind a half hour trip up the Spray Lake road this an awesome experience...
https://mountengadine.com/
You can book dinner 24 hrs in advance and it is really great. The location can not be matched by driving in a car.

Tapas is easily the best restaurant in Canmore bar none. Best restaurant I've been to between Banff, Calgary and Canmore. It's very cramped though.
Most places are pretty meh in Canmore, but for meh places you can't beat Grizzly Paw for that Canmore have a drink after hiking or skiing experience. Experiences can vary greatly but has been better the last time I have been there.

Yup, Tapas is excellent. Been there a couple of times, most recently a few months ago. The Trough is/was also very good but haven't been there for a few years.

We were lucky to call Canmore home for a long time and still go back multiple times a year.
Forget about the Wood and Iron Goat, the inconsistency is very frustrating. If you want a great patio for a nice day hit the restaurant at the Canmore Golf and Curling Club.
Best Pub food is usually the Georgetown Inn.
Chez Francois is a good restaurant and is incredible for breakfast.
Tapas, The Trough, The Crazy Weed, Sage Bistro, Blake and Rustica at Silvertip are probably still the best choices for higher end stuff.
Where the Buffalo Roam by the Grizzly Paw is a must stop if the kids are sleeping! Wonderful cocktail bar and Tappas.
If you want spaghetti or lasagna Patrino’s is great for that.

if you're looking for more of a grab-and-go than a sit-down experience, Valbella Meats has a fantastic deli. Get a killer sandwich and picnic in the mountains.

Craig's waystation baby! I kid I kid. Best hangover burger in Canmore though.
Murietas is fine. Chez Francois is a staple. I wouldnt bother with Sherwood House. Used to be the best patio on the planet. Then they killed the vibe. Wait times can be abysmal at best.
There used to be some hidden gems in the elk run industrial park, Chez Francois started there for example.
No better breakfast in the mountains than at the Summit cafe. Serious amazing.

Another vote for Tapas. It’s the best, bar none.
Trough has been excellent in the past, but I was disappointed my last time. Not horrible by any means, but not up to previous standards. That was almost a year ago though, and I’ll definitely give it another try next time we’re staying in Canmore.
Tapas though, it’s just the best place. It’s smallish so make a reservation!
