With the emergence og the younger RH def, wonder if Rangers would deal Trouba (with salary retained).

From a cap perspective, I’d trade Hanifin and shoot for the Hamonic return.
Giordano - Andersson
Valimaki - Pietrangelo
Mackey - Kylington
Solid veteran UFA as the 6th/7th.
Pietrangelo is so good, you trust Valimaki/Mackey to step in and play with him - and learn from him.

Pass on Trouba even with retained salary unless it's 5+ million.

If the Flames were able to deal Hanifin and Ryan away for a combination of prospects and picks I think the Flames could theoretically bring in all three and hang on to the main part of the core and take a big swing at the cup, it would be really nice to see an all in approach for once rather than maintaining mediocrity. If it doesn’t work out in the next two years be big sellers at the 21/22 trade deadline when prices paid are usually ridiculous.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Lindholm
Hall - Backlund - Tkachuk
Mangiapane - Bennett - Dube
Lucic - Gawdin - Phillips
Giordano - Pietrangelo
Valimaki - Andersson
Mackey - Kylington
Markstrom

Thinking more on the lineup above too I’d switch the centers up and have Backlund in the middle of Gaudreau and Lindholm. It would be our version of the Marchand - Bergeron - Pasternak line and while I know the Boston line is superior in comparison I actually think we could apply the same style of play to a trio of Gaudreau - Backlund - Lindholm and see each player benefit from it.
I like the thought of Monahan playing between Hall and Tkachuk as well, I think it would help add some grit to Monahan’s game who could also easily find the quiet areas in the slot and around the net with Hall and Tkachuk creating havoc.
Gaudreau - Backlund - Lindholm
Hall - Monahan - Tkachuk
That is an extremely well balanced top 6 IMO with the biggest detractor being just the one right hand shot.

Peitrangelo is a RD, making the top of LD Valimaki/Mackie/Forbort.
I think that whatever way you play it, one of Hanifin or Gioradano simply has to stay, and Gaudreau has to leave because after this offseason his contract basically transforms him into a rental.

This is proof that it doesn't work - no 4th line, and only 2 1/2 defensemen

Wait. That lineup isn't possibly projecting the Flames pay Derek Forbort $3.33 million per season?

I think it’s sweet you think this ownership group is going to add the three biggest free agents by position in a year without fans.
Keep the dream alive.

Is that, that surprising? It's not like we're on the other side of the country from Calgary.

Uhhh, yeah sure. "Desperate." I'd describe desperate as watching games and trying to convince one's self that Quinn Hughes isn't very good.

Ugh. Talk about tiresome.

Not sure about the other two, but Colorado's achilles heel in all this is goaltending and they have pokers in the fire on Markstrom. He's an ideal fit for their needs.

Not at all. Demko was amazing at the AHL level before coming up. I believe he will adapt.

Again, the difference between Demko and Binnington or Murray is that Demko was expected to be that good. It wasn't really "out of nowhere"
But yes, playing "THAT" well over a full season would be absolutely unreal. I just hope it's got him over that hump of not remembering how to stop a puck in the first five minutes of the game.

Forbort for $3.33M?!
Wat. No thanks to the player (LA gets a 3rd instead of a 4th if we re-sign him), especially at 2x his realistic value.

I just don't put any stock into this argument about pedigree when it comes to goalies that were drafted outside the first round. All of these guys were already multiple years removed from the draft, and have had several years of professional development. Yes, in the sense that they were all pro goalies with well established minor league careers before ever starting in tbe NHL playoffs, they ALL came from "out of nowhere."

I would put it closer to 5x.
I see Forbort getting a league-minimum deal somewhere. $3.3 million is absurd.
