Since you got up this morning, dozens of people have been murdered.
It's a really big world we live in.
This is also the safest, most tolerant, most peaceful the world has ever been. But in a world of 7 billion - or 360 million if you're looking at the English-speaking parts of the world that upload videos to Youtube or Facebook - even behaviour only engaged in by 1 per cent of people happens often enough that it can overwhelm your social media feed if that's what you're looking for. And if we were to reduce these bad things by 90 per cent - reduce murder, racism, sexism - it will still happen often enough in a population of 360 million people that you will see dozens of instances of it a day on social media if that's what you're looking for.

Former Principal of Etobicoke School of the Arts created and circulated a "Black List" of students among teachers.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toron...list-1.4724307
Quote:
Aitchison outraged parents and students by compiling a list of black students and circulating it to teachers in November of 2017. In February, a teacher at the school took a picture of the list and sent it to students, sparking serious questions.
...
Students and parents who have seen the list — which many now call the "black list" — say Aitchison used the school's yearbook to identify black students.
Aitchison's list also allegedly used ethnic signifiers like as "African" and "Caribbean" to describe students, also separating both "black" and "mixed race" students on the lists as well.
...
At the meeting, called in response to mounting pressure from students, he says both the school and the TDSB made unsatisfactory attempts at reconciling the issue. For example, Aitchison commenced her apology by stating she had "black friends," he said.
|
Aitchison has not been fired, she has transferred schools.

A new twist on an old classic!
https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/...ers/758002002/
Quote:
Janelle Bynum, a state representative from Oregon who is black, said she was going door-to-door to talk with constituents when one of those constituents called the police on her, thinking her actions were "suspicious."
Bynum is running for reelection in November, and posted about the experience to Facebook on Tuesday.
"Big shout out to Officer Campbell who responded professionally to someone who said that I was going door to door and spending a lot of time typing on my cell phone after each house—- aka canvassing and keeping account of what my community cares about!" she wrote.
The incident happened around 5:10 p.m. Tuesday after Bynum had visited nearly 30 homes in Clackamas, Ore., OregonLive reports.

Identity-Based Politics are Not the Problem, Identity-Based Oppression Is
How Conservatives and Liberals Confuse a Symptom for the Disease

it is only because those identities have been given particular meaning by systems of inequality — in short, because of oppression on the basis of those things — that individuals now seek to organize around said identities.
Which is to say that if one doesn’t like identity politics, there is a rather obvious way to stop them: put an end to the subordination of people on the basis of identity.

Is that racist?
It's a predominantly black neighbourhood. They called because some kid slammed into their fence and broke it. What does race have to do with a kid slamming into their fence? Of note, these neighbours called the police for issues relating to parking on the street without getting tickets, they are 911-trigger happy. There's no reason to believe race played an issue here.
Of course you don't want some dillweed neighbour calling the cops for every minor thing, but nosy irrational neighbour ≠ racist.

Community pools are cesspools to begin with, but I'm pretty sure no one should be wearing socks in it.

Calling the fashion police?
This thread makes me feel some sympathy for the police in that they clearly deal with more ridiculous and stupid calls from whackjobs than I had imagined.
