Voynov cleared to return to the NHL. UPD: Daly denies report
https://twitter.com/user/status/1033749009628848128
I believe the Kings still have his rights, but they have indicated they were not interested in bringing him back.
So any team interested would need to work out a trade with the Kings first.

Clear message already sent, in my opinion.
Voynov has been out of the league for 4 years.
Need not be a life sentence, necessarily.

That is exactly what I was thinking. The Oilers are so thin on the back end they seem to be a likely candidate to overlook all of Voynov's warts.

The question is which team is going to be desperate enough to bring in this tough guy? He laid quite a beating on his girlfriend as if you read the police reports there was blood all over the scene. I have to think this would be a hard sell in a Canadian market. Maybe in a southern US market if timed right with NFL first month and MLB playoff races it could get snuck in with little fanfare. Even then there could be some backlash.

Cant imagine his D-partner is going to be thrilled if a team does take him.

I don't disagree with you at all, but Voynov was basically the #2D on two cup teams (at worst a pairing-anchoring #3D). Top pairing Dmen don't grow on trees so I think quite a few teams will be looking at giving him a second chance. He wouldn't be the first criminal pro athlete.

Remember when Hoffman was not going to find a single team in the NHL that would have him in their dressing room?
The NHL has welcomed back players guilty of vehicular manslaughter. Someone will take a shot at a player of Voynov's calibre. The fact he's still together as a family with his wife and child will be useful when they hold the press conference, with her sitting beside him being supportive.
And of course almost every team in the NFL has players on the roster who have been charged with a felony.

Oh yeah, if he's cleared to return he'll be playing in the NHL. There's too much on the line for GM's to not attempt to fill a hole and he left as a #2 D man on stacked team. He may have lost a little since then, but top 4 D-men are gold.
edit: Yeah, Cliff nailed it. If he's good to go he's coming back.

Well it's a little different because Hoffman's only crime is having a girlfriend who some consider not so nice. HOWEVER, I must reiterate that her whole situation is still very much an alleged incident and little proof has come forward as of yet, not to mention she is fighting back against the allegation.
Voynov plead no contest to physically abusing his girlfriend, with multitudes of evidence to support the charge. It really is apples and oranges, and I think some teams (not all, obviously) are going to steer clear of Voynov for those reasons.

Since when do the Oilers give a rats patootie about player reps. One of their biggest faces of that franchise is a convicted drunk driver who killed others.

Craig was tried and found guilty and served his time. I think he’s an example of a person that turned his life around and the penal system “working”.

Everyone deserves a second chance. If Caitlyn Jenner can kill a man and win Women of the Year, then surely Voynov should have an opportunity to play in the NHL again.

I guess. He definitely served all of his 1 year sentence (3 months in regular jail and the rest in an "alternative centre". Then he had a job immediately after getting out (with the Oilers, natch, who signed him as a UFA while he was imprisoned).

I’d say beating the #### out of a woman deserves no chance at all.

Seems like it's just talk, so they can say they did their due diligence when he signs in LA.

What is the deadline to sign a contract to be able to play this season, Dec 1st? If that is the case, I am sure the NHL will take their time until the deadline passes for this season.
