I think it is actually decent for them but getting rid of Neal is a huge plus.

If the oilers get out from under Neal and get a legit player in return somehow, I'm going to be sick.

They'd be giving up a first to dump his contract, I wouldn't get too sick about it.

Spending significant assets on a goalie like Kuemper is terrifying to me. Compared to a skater, it is particularly hard to recover assets.
Look no further than the Lehner TDLtrade
Unless you've already traded Gaudreau, it is lunacy to acquire a key asset expiring in the same year. It basically gives you a one year window. If you can't/don't want to extend them, you've really backed yourself into a corner.

I don’t mind the trade for the Oilers.
They get rid of Neal, and get a defencemen that is better than anyone they have.

Isn’t Lucic owed much less actual dollars than Neal? If we can get OEL and dump Lucic somehow I take that as a win.

Kuemper has two years on this contract at 4.5M AAV.

Good, they get OEL, we will sign Hall and score all of the goals on him.
Do NOT like spending 19th OA on Kuemper.
They want that boat anchor contract to go along with McJesus deal and Draisaitl s, all the power to you, you're just hamstrings yourself further. Best of luck Oilers.

They are also trading a 1st and taking on a monster contract term and $$ for how much of an upgrade on Nurse?

Well Vegas can get UFA goalies to sign there at a bargain and Calgary can't...Calgary might have to trade for a guy with term

Would you trade Lucic, Hanifin, and a 1st? for that Player/contract? because its basically the same deal

Nurse is only signed for two more years which takes him to UFA I think.
Maybe they will take Lucic + a 1st for Kuemper.

OEL at his entire contract has negative value IMO
most seemed to agree when he was rumored to be coming to the Flames...not a bad player but 7x8.25
not a great player either

Yeah, but if they would take Lucic then you consider it unless you think he has magically found his game again.
I'd consider Lucic + Hanifin with no first. Hanifin is signed to a much better contract.

They'd also be getting back a contract where the final 2-3 years may be just as bad, except has a NMC; while giving up a 25 year old defenseman that is still growing into his game.

Nurse had 33pts in 71 games this year, and 41pts last year. OEL isn't much of an upgrade for the difference in contracts....

I don't think Looch is going anywhere but to file his retirement papers . When that is, who knows.
Honestly, I think they need him in the locker room.
Just let everyone else have OEL. No reas9n to give up anything to the Yotes. We certainly shouldn't be bailing them out with picls after they were caught cheating, eff that. Let them suffer.

Yeah, but that's 2024-25 Oilers' problem! Almost definitely a different GM.

I honestly don't get that trade for the Oilers...if the Flames gave up a 1st to take a bad contract I would be furious unless there is a lot more to it.
Even if they got rid of Lucic they would have to spend that money wisely to make it worthwhile
