That's a hell of a cap to take on. If San Jose is retaining it's a hell of a retention to hang on to.
Right now it's LTIR but that can't last forever can it?

I don't know, my hatred for that team is starting to get close to Oiler level. They were gifted a SC contending team from day 1 and continually abuse LTIR to build super teams.

This undoubtedly means Flames get the 2026 1st (unprotected) and Vegas likely wins a round so then we also get the 2025 2nd.

Smart for San Jose to get out from that contract. They are terrible and by the time they aren't terrible, Hertl's contract will probably be ugly.
Vegas will also find some team to take it on for free to get out of it in a couple of years.

The rules are the same for all other 31 teams. I applaud Vegas for always trying to be aggressive and keeping their fans excited.
