It actually makes a bit of sense. He’s really only been successful as part of a tandem, I assume philly wants him out and maybe would retain a bit of salary.

Elliot as a veteran backup for Rittich doesn’t sound too bad to me.

Fenton: No, he is firm on wanting to stay here.

Tre: Is it worth asking him if he'd like to come to Calgary and help us win a cup?

Fenton: No, he's steadfast in his decision.

Tre: Okay, just checking.

As for Elliott. I highly doubt that.

..off the top of my head.

Treliving tried really hard to add a big piece on this deadline, but was halted at every turn for one reason or another.
Perhaps the reports of him getting mad with not landing Zucker could have been mounting frustrations. Couldn't get Stone because the price was too high, and he likely felt the price was higher than what Vegas paid. Couldn't get Hayes or Zuccarello. Edler and Simmonds both declined waiving to come to Calgary, then Zucker fell through for some reason. He likely would have been upset but with all the failed deals it probably made things worse.

So I take it that guy on here who said that a trade fell through with one of our rivals was right with it most likely being Edler

This is almost at a Nostradamus level of matching vague references to actual events.

That's what this looks like.

Sure he didnt get enough in return for Granlund, at least that's the concensus.

But rebuilds, when done right, are ugly for fan bases. He is accumulating young talent and draft picks, which is what the Zucker deal would have been as well. Another 1st to add on to their existing 1st.

This thing has just started i would think, since it appears he wants to reshape the whole team and drive out several core pieces. No idea what they do with Parise though and that one is gonna hurt for a while if rebuild is indeed the road he wants to go down.
Well IMO every move he has made has been bad. I'm perfectly happy if a Western rival keeps losing value in one for one trades

IMO there was 0% chance that they were looking to bring back Brian Elliott.

I don't think his relationship with management ended that well after he left here at the expiry of his contract.

It would have been received horribly by the fans as well and therefore made zero sense. If the Flames brought Elliott back I know I would have called it a waste even if the return was future considerations. His series against the Ducks is just unforgivable.

He and Anders Eriksson are the two worst players in terms of impact on the team in franchise history. Eriksson cost two playoff rounds by being a moron and Elliott singlehandedly cost the 4 games by allowing multiple bad goals in each of the first 3 games and a muffin in game 4.

Their removal was necessary and welcomed. I would literally want any other goalie in either the NHL or AHL than Elliott back after what happened. I don't think that there isn't a Flames fan who would argue very hard against that.

Zucker maybe but I don't know about Edler. It sounds like he wants to stay in Vancouver which why he wouldn't waive his NTC.

I don't see them looking at Edler in the offseason.

Treliving was very adamant in his press conference that he wanted a veteran d-man with no term.

I think he wanted extra protection for this playoff run but knows that he wants the spots open for Andersson, Valkimaki, and Kylington moving forward.

I'm not sure of the context here.

Elliotte Friedman telling SN 650 that the Flames were after Edler at deadline, I’m hearing the Penguins and Blue Jackets as well. The focus now switches to signing Edler, no update on that front.

I assume he means the focus for Vancouver is signing him to a new contract, since his is up at the end of the season.

How much are you paying Bennett, Edler, Rittich and Tkachuk and a backup goalie? Where did Stone go? My math says that if you give Bennett $3M, Edler $3.5 (basically replacing Stone money somehow), Rittich $2.5M and Tkachuk $8M and, say, Talbot $2.5 you are at almost $86M. Maybe you cheap out on a backup and save a couple million but still.

That's Vancouver's focus. It is mentioned in The Athletic article they want to re-sign Elder.

Its why Elder wouldn't waive as well reportedly. He wants to stay in Vancouver.

I was around for the Anders Eriksson years but I still can't recall what he did to cost us two series.

Maybe I'm so traumatized I blocked it from my mind?

We really need to be opening up D spots for the young trio of Valimaki, Kylington and Andersson so adding a vet D long term and especially a LHD does not make sense.

I think if anything you will see us trading one of Brodie/Hamonic as part of a package deal in the off-season/draft day for a player with term like we were looking at in Zucker on trade deadline day.
