Pitchfork is like the indie version of Simon Cowell. Their decimal point rating system is beyond pretentious and every album review is like reading a high school student trying to write an Atlantic article. That said, I’m a huge Fiona Apple fan and the album is quite good on first listen.

Lol pitchfork is funny. I present the most pretentious smell your own farts, before smelling your own farts was cool, review in history. And yet doesn’t at all seem out of place at pitchfork.

As good as that album is, it’s a hilarious review. And the same guy gave Lateralus a 1.9. The Fragile a 2.0. He’s basically Hitler.
OMG! How is that real? It’s like a hardtimes spoof of album reviews.
This is gold:

The butterscotch lamps along the walls of the tight city square bled upward into the cobalt sky, which seemed as strikingly artificial and perfect as a wizard's cap. The staccato piano chords ascended repeatedly. "Black eyed angels swam at me," Yorke sang like his dying words. "There was nothing to fear, nothing to hide." The trained critical part of me marked the similarity to Coltrane's "Ole." The human part of me wept in awe.

Yep. I can adore a song with crappy or simple lyrics. I can't adore a lyrical masterpiece vocalized to horrible music.

I have a lot of trouble finding and listening to new music because of the focus on the singer. I blame the reality shows. I can't help but dissect a song on the radio as I'm driving, and taking away the lyrics usually ends up as listening to a series of banal twerps and thuds.

The new Fiona Apple album is definitely different. It's mainly a percussive album with piano not on many of the tracks or taking a backseat. I feel like the more listens I give it the more it will grow on me. This song stood out the most for me after my first listen.
New Tijuana Panthers. It really really really reminds me of Clorox Girls, which is fantastic.
