To the dudes who drafted behind, then passed me going around the reservoir this morning without using a bell or giving verbal warning: smarten up. Your morning commute isn't the Tour de France.

10th is a little too out of the way for me. I live on 4th St west, and my office is on 4th Street east.
Here is the sign in question BTW:

I also have the Sugoi Zap shoe cover. It works really well, and is super visible on the dark, rainy nights. It does run a touch smaller than the resistors. I broke the zipper before riding with it once. I took them back and am just more careful. I should have gone a size up.

Busted out my rocky mtn altitude for the first time this year and went for a spin around the hood with my daughter.
Was stunned at how slow my altitude handled now that I am used to my commuter rig. It was my first ride with my mavic alpine xl's and race face atlas pedals. The shoes are likely a smidge small, and you can feel the dead spot in the shoe where the clip goes, but otherwise, shoe pedal combo felt comfortable.
Also put new ice tech rotors and dropped in new finned pads and the brakes were dragging a bit. I think I need to pull the pads and open up the Pistons with a screwdriver. Also may need to bleed the brakes.
Planning on hitting the paskapoo slopes Saturday afternoon for a taste of dirt

^ I plan on being at east paskapoo for most of Sat morning. If you happen to be there early, come say hi. I'll be playing around the little jumps at the bottom of jawbone. I'm trying to relearn a basic no-footer (would love to cancan by seasons end if my old bones will allow).

Yeah, the kids start coming out late morning. I'm too embarassed to be in my late 30s practicing moves that many 11-14 year olds have mastered. I definitely won't be around east lands by then.
Fuzz: May I ask where you sourced this "thunderhorn"? Sounds like a must-have for me. Google spits out a lot of World of Warcraft info but no local retailers...

Growing up my mom used arcades all the time as "baby sitting" - probably starting about age 10.
"Here's a Loonie. Stay here till 2:00 when I come back. Look after your younger brother."
There were always weirdos at the Wizard's Castle, but we're fine.

I've got a fairly standard mountain bike I bought at Sport Chek about 5 years ago. Works fine for my purposes.
However, we just bought a chariot CX2 baby carrier with a bike trailer attachment.
It comes with an attachment like this:
From the looks of it, it assumes that I have a back wheel with a quick release mechanism that goes through a hollow axle (which I do not have). My back tire is on a long solid bolt and held on with nuts, like this -
I'm looking for a good cheap solution to this problem (I'm not looking to go buy a new bike).
Can I just go get a new back wheel or something? or perhaps an adapter for the bike trailer attachment?

Or your 10mm bolt on hub can probably converted to qr. Check out Paul's components? They may have an axle kit.

Hey guys,
I am sure there is lots of advice in this thread, buy I have found it hard to find all the information I am looking for.
Mainly I am curious as what most of you bike commuters do with you work clothes? I know an option is to drive once a week and bring new stuff, but are there any better options that people have tried?
Another thing I am wondering is riding gear, what do you guys wear? Where is the best place to buy?
Total rookie here looking to get in shape by riding to work, so any other advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

If you need suits you can get something like this:
http://www.twowheelgear.com/
I'm fortunate and don't have to wear one, so just leave shoes at the office and bring pant's/shirts in my backpack. Riding gear...that totally depends on weather. I am only a few blocks from MEC, so I tend to buy what I think I need, and as the weather changes, add on to my supply. Hands cold? Buy warmer gloves. Shorts not cutting it? But some leg warmers. Best to start small and add on what you need as you go, rather than buying one of everything!
If you go the backpack route, I highly recommenced the Deuter ones that keep the bag off your back for airflow. Really reduces sweating. MEC carries them.
Good on you for giving it a go!

^ here is some tips i can think of:
* if your job requires a suit, then think about leaing a sport coat that works with a bunch of stuff at the office - then at least you have somehting
* i have a travel towel, that folds small so it is easy to transport home to wash, otherwise i leave it at the office for a few uses
* i roll my clothes to try and prevent wrinkles - but no matter what you do, that shirt is not going to look as crisp as it could
as for clothes - generally speaking MEC has beeter stuff, but there are times whne your LBS may have a sale on that offers better prices. i have a jacket that turns into a vest, i cycling type undershirt (similar to a lightweigh fleece), and then a short sleeve shirt. i have mid weight cycling tights, then i put my spandex over top followed by a pair of baggies. i also have cool weather gloves and a headband for thsoe cool mornings.
when it comes to clothes, think about are you going to be riding when it is -25, or do you stop when it is 9 degress and buy clothing for around that temp point.
as an aside, i find it tough to ride in the mornings, but i love looking at traffic jams on deerfoot while ripping up the path

good advice above, Eagle Eye. The hardest part about cycling to work? Getting started. Get going, make it a habit and you'll do well.
