Rather than reaching for the trade button to improve scoring why not elevate from within. There are a number of players doing very well in the AHL that could probably play at least 3rd line minutes. Bumping guys like mangiapane back up into the top 6.

We all know this team needs scoring for a few seasons now. Glad, the Flames brought in Coleman - his 4 goals have helped so much.

It’s promised land. Almost on par with Keenan’s ‘pre prepared’ comment a few days ago.
You guys who like to think you’re smarter than the GM are really making a strong case for yourselves.

I am enjoying the season, sutter is amazing.
That being said, with tkachuk and gaudreau status in limbo, I am just fine to tank next season for bedard. Kid is the real deal.

Coleman’s career shooting percentage has been 9.5%. This year he has been at 5%. Treliving’s fault?
I suppose we can categorize that deal as yet another epic fail. Other than his pitiful 4 goals I’m certain Coleman has brought nothing to the team, right?
Regardless, the team has preformed well this year. First in the Pacific based on points percentage. Carry on with your witch hunt though. I’m sure it is doing something for you. Let me guess, you complained bitterly about the Tanev and Markstrom signings.

Coleman ain't worth that contract now, or in 2,3,4 years from now. But do tell how he's amazing as a bottom line, pk specialist, making top 6 dough though 🤦#♂️

I like what Coleman brings to the team. I really do. I just think the contract is horrible. I think the Flames would have been better off in the long run not committing that money and term to a bottom 6 forward. He's got more game in him than Brouwer or Neal but like them I don't think his offensive production is going to translate to the Flames.

I also like what Coleman brings to the team, and I believe it's only a matter of time until he starts producing offense. It's not easy playing on a Sutter team, but sooner or later, he'll get some top-6 time.

he was playing 17-18 mins a night in the playoffs for the back to back cup champs...24 points in the playoffs
what is that worth? quite a lot I think. I wish the Flames had a player like him the last couple trips to the playoffs.

I'm a Coleman fan but the contract was always sticky. Cap has to go back up (and start rising faster...) by years 3-6 to make it palatable. Right now that seems unlikely at best.
Seems like a silly thing to worry about for now though. He's not playing poorly and the team is succeeding. Now, with Taxi squad available plus our cap accumulation, we should be able to wedge in a decent forward piece.

I wonder if we could aquire Jordan Eberle for a reasonable price. Could fit the 2nd line right wing spot

Right now I’m more concerned that Johnny is going to be walking away for nothing in the summer. They have had plenty of time to hammer out a deal . I have bad feeling that Tre will use the “gain of cap hit space” as the asset return speech.
I wish I had faith that flames would do the right thing on trading Johnny at deadline if not signed , but I do not

They have some pretty big fish to fry at the end of the year when it comes to roster decisions. The Flames are in for a really big offseason.

A free agent next season:
1. Looking for a retirement contract
2. Middle six forward with lots of intangibles but very low pure scoring and playmaking abilities
Someone like Palat or Reilly Smith

I thought maybe they would make use of the COVID shutdown to try to hammer out the extension. As the season moves forward, I'm definitely starting to get a little more concerned.

When was the last time a team contending for the playoffs, traded their soon to be FA, and arguably one of their best forwards? It simply won't happen, even if JG declines an extension. As long as the Flames are in contention there won't be a JG deal.

Better prediction:
keenan87: 'Treliving is an idiot for not signing Gaudreau'
Flames sign Gaudreau
keenan87: 'Treliving is an idiot for singing Gaudreau for that long and that much money'

What the Flames should do is to trade their bad players for good players.
