Yeah you totally busted me. Only 10 out of 13 theatres in the city were downtown. Not every one.
I feel pretty dumb now.

Maybe with everything getting so expensive this place will survive, hope so, still a good deal at $5.

Well now you've got me trying to figure out what the third one was.
Market, Northland Village, Sunrdige, London Towne Centre, Southport, South Centre probably all came around in 80s?

A couple months ago, someone posted a link to this site: http://cinematreasures.org/theaters/...lberta/calgary
It shows every theatre that has ever existed in Calgary.
I haven't checked every theatre on the list, but it has: - Brentwood opened in 1969, closed in 1987.
- Studio 82 (Heritage Dr) opened in 1966, closed in 1986.
- Market Mall opened in 1977 and closed in 2002.
In addition to Chinook Centre and North Hill, that's three more that were open outside downtown prior to 1980. Southland opened in 1981 and closed in 2001.

Ah Studio 82. Deep cut.
Brentwood is the one where Jubiliations is now?
No that's Westbrook which seems to be missing completely.
I think I saw the Last Unicorn there. That f'n bull freaked me out.
Oh i see they are still counting it as active because of Jubilations. Lame.

Brentwood is the one where Brentwood Mall is now (Crowchild/Charleswood area). I remember it had a sign on the building that faced Crowchild showing what movies were playing.

Fond memories of Marlborough Mall in the 80’s. Got my first pair of Nikes at Forzani’s when it was beside Woolco. When the NES came out there was a dedicated store with the first stage of Super Mario Brothers painted on the wall. There was also a t-shirt store that had Simpsons shirts. San Francisco selling crazy stuff. Tops n Toys (?) selling well, toys; the food court with the Sbarro, the arcade.
Where was the movie theatre?

Anyone else remember Laser Illusions? Maybe it was in Southcentre? I went there once in like, 1990 I think, for a birthday party when I was but a wee lad, and it was AWESOME!

In the early/mid '90s they used to be a store called The Cinnamon Spider Once Loved Toys on 16th Avenue and maybe 7A Street. I'm not sure exactly, but I think maybe Aquilla Books is there now.
Even in the '90s that place was absolute nostalgia gold for toys. I think they had baby supplies in the basement as well, things such as cribs, strollers, etc.
It's obviously gone now, and I don't know if they couldn't make a go of it, or they just closed shop. Maybe they moved?
Anyone remember that place? I want it to exist again.

I can smell it in my mind. It smelled like a 70s basement full of every toy you would have wanted from the Consumers/Sears catalogs. They let me in the basement once when it was closing. I was too young and dumb not to buy everything as it would be worth fortunes now. All I got was a few Transformers.

Ah yes, the Sunset Drive-In. Where the Centre Street Church Central Campus is now. It closed in 1986. I went and saw movies like Return of the Jedi, and The Goonies there, along with 'classics' like Poltergeist 2 and Cats Eye.

A load of us used to annoy the hell out of Tops n Toys staff wanting to ‘demo’ video games.
It got to the point where you had to prove to them you had the 40 bucks to actually buy the game.
Yes, there was a theatre - with THREE screens! I went there almost every Saturday.
I was also a regular at the arcade. I remember the staff watching how you played Asteroids. If you just flew around with one small asteroid trying to rack up points shooting the small spaceships, you were made to shoot the last asteroid, or leave.

Down around the corner from Randy River (not really…just wanted to throw in that blast from the past). I think the movie theatre there was the NE section. Basically if you were walking toward Sears and turned right it was down that arm.

That’s right. I also remember they had two or three arcade machines across from the box office. That’s where I saw the first Dragon’s Lair. 50c for about 20 seconds gameplay if you didn’t know what you were doing.
I didn’t know what I was doing.
