$1M? Pfft...I spend that every other month.
I also drive a Purple Lamborghini and have a proclivity for waking up in new Bugattis.
In retrospect I may need to have a prescription double-checked...

RMB, CDN, USD, Pesos? Calgary users / Alberta / Canada / Anywhere? This poll seems a bit flawed.

Median individual income in Calgary is $43,500. Only 16 per cent earn 100k or more.
Calgary Census
So yeah, this forum is far from being representative of Calgarians or Albertans as a whole.

I think we have a lot of white-collar posters in general and then you add to that the fact that a lot of us pay for Flames games and it makes sense. I don't know that people are being truthful with this survey, of course, but I just mean that I think CP tends to skew to a higher income than the overall population.

A lot of specialists are married to other docs (specialists or GPs). Good chance the pair might exceed 1M

The question specified individual income.

Ooops. All I saw was the word household, and the idea was only solidified when I saw the results.

I think that would be unusual:

Because it’s wrong with a quick google.

I’d actually be shocked if even 2 specialists married are clearing 1 million.
Not to mention that you would be absolutely shocked to see specialists married to each other. That’s not normal. Sub 1%.

How many people in Calgary bounce in and out of employment with severance? I always hear about people who are glorified draftsman getting $60 an hour jobs with OT....but those last about a year until they are back out of work and willing to work for 30 type of thing. As an outsider I see Calgary as a place where you can make big money....but you will be employed for 60% of the time if you really work it. But thats in the Enginering Technical/Construction line of work. Although right now is one of the down times where the lesser paying stable jobs are getting few and far between let alone these mythical jobs.

Which part of the census I linked to is wrong? And do you have a link to the information that shows it's wrong? Keep in mind we're talking about individual income here, not household.

I think the confusion is the fact that you chose the median income of everyone over 15 as your mark which makes it look especially low, considering most people tend to think in averages and also tend to forget high schoolers with very little income.
The average income for that group is 69K, for example.
The median for full-time employment is 66K, while the average is 90K.
Regardless, you were right about the poll being completely unrepresentative of average Calgarians and Albertans, no matter what number you choose.

To further that point, while the initial impulse may be to assume that this website is homogenously comprised of 25-to-45-year-old white males, the demographics are, in reality, far more diverse (and that runs directly alongside the disparity in the poll results).
