Serial is outstanding and deserves all its attention and success. I highly recommend it.

Slate also runs a podcast about Serial - it started around episode 6 I believe. Worth checking out if you want to hear what the cultureheads are thinking.

Sweet thanks.

Looks like the first is an episode 5 postview. Listening to Serial Episode 5 now. I am mudding and taping my new downstairs bathroom so I'll probably be caught up by the time the Flames game starts.

Ya, sorry I wasn't clear. The Slate podcast on Serial only starts after episode 5 of Serial. The first Slate episode isn't great, but subsequent ones are because of the guests they have.

There is also an interesting online conversation with Rabia being conducted by Pete Rorabaugh of Southern Polytechnic State University. Its' episode 1 is after Serial episode 6. Rabia obviously has an agenda, but it is interesting to hear her take on the evidence (much of which she has reviewed) as well as her take on the show Serial itself (and some of the behind-the-scenes production concerns).

Episode 1 of that convo:

I go back and forth on Adnon's guilt, but the evidence sure seems flimsy for a conviction. Perhaps we should have a separate thread for Serial? I'll leave that for someone else to start to make sure I'm not in there just talking to myself.

Been listening to Race Wars last few months and it keeps getting better.

Two comedians (Kurt Metzger/Sherrod Small) tackle tough social issues.

The Sam Harris podcast never fails to be both entertaining and fascinating.

Dan Carlin's Hardcore History. This isn't some dry reading of history. Carlin can speak in an engaging manner (he was a radio broadcaster), and his podcasts are about some of the most dramatic and fascinating events in history, told with real passion. If you're at all interested in history, especially military history, there's no excuse not to listen.

^Yeah, that too. It seems to take him a long time between episodes but particularly the series of podcasts on the Mongols, and the ones on WWI, are awesome.

The increasingly long wait between episodes can be frustrating. He's down to about, what, three or four episodes a year now? But then I look back on when I started listening about five years ago, when episodes came out monthly, and the episodes are much longer now - around five hours or so compared to an hour and a half. I've come to think of them as audibooks released in several parts over the duration of a year. My personal favourites are the ones on the Mongols and the fall of the Roman Republic.

SPYCAST - by far my favourite. Its put on by the International Spy Museum in Washington. Goes through everything from ancient Chinese espionage, to WWI/II, US Civil War, Cold War, Snowden, etc. Really fascinating.

Waking up with Sam Harris - Also very interesting. Lots of discussions on how/why we think and act like we do.

At the letters - Baseball and Blue Jays discussion.

I like The Film Vault... has Bald Bryan from Adam Carolla and a guy who worked on loveline.. they talk movies but not in that pretentious critic way that seems to happen on a lot of movie podcasts.

This year I've added two, Freakonomics and Doug Loves Movies. Stoner comic who has interesting movie trivia games with other comics, actors, etc. I was never big on his comedy, but I look forward to the podcast, usually posting twice a week.

Just recently started listening to "Sleep With Me" to help me fall asleep. Some guy with a soothing grandpa-y voice tells long, rambling, discursive, mildly interesting stories with (apparently) NLP/guided meditation aspects to them to help you fall asleep.

It's been working like a charm the last week. Amazing.
