That seems like an awful lot of money for an RFA - he was an RFA still, right?
Teams really need to put the screws to their RFAs this summer, it's the only way to manage the flat cap.

He might have 1000 games with the Wild by the time this contract ends.

He was an UFA next season.
He still has 1 year left on his current contract

I read that as Brodie, and was very much confused.
Pretty good price for the Wild though.

Brodin is a tremendous defender who has some of the best suppression impacts in the league. He does very little offensively but he's also a vacuum for scoring chances like few other players are. He has a great defensive stick. Minnesota is smart to keep him.

I remember reading they were a bit shy on shopping Dumba until they knew what was going to happen with Brodin. I wonder if trade talks around Dumba heat up now.

For those wondering what it might cost to sign TJ Brodie, take a look at the deal Jonas Brodin just signed in Minny: 7 years x $6M. While they are different players and stats alone don't dictate worth, Brodie's offensive numbers dwarf Brodin's, pushing Brodie's worth skyward.

Do we agree that based on the comparison of the two, that Brodie would command more than Brodin on the UFA market?

Brodin is a lot stronger defensively than Brodie. Don't think Francis' argument there holds a lot of merit. Brodin is also a lot younger.

Brodin is playing through his prime on this contract.
Brodie will mostly be playing past his prime on his contract. He's 3 years older.
At least in theory. Age alone makes them hardly comparable.

Is 4 years at $6mm comparable? I could see that. Maybe 5x $5.5., but I don't see more than $6mm/year because of his better offence.

Brodin and Brodie are comparable in name only. They aren't really comparable defenceman from a contract perspective at all.
Brodin is 3 years younger and known around the league as one of the best defensive defenceman. Quality shots and chances against diminish when he is on the ice. Whether you think that has value or not is debatable, but it's clear lots of teams do.
What is Francis talking about Brodie's offensive number dwarfing Brodin's? Over their careers maybe, but Brodin outscored Brodie this past season while being better defensively.
Brodie is solid at both ends of the ice and has good underlying numbers, but you have to keep in mind he has played mostly with Giordano over the past few seasons. I can't see anybody giving Brodie a 7 year deal for 6 million per, especially during covid times.

Muzzin's current contract is 4 years @ $5.625. Does he play top pairing and/or PP? I am not familiar with the Leafs depth chart.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Dumba is moved now. Monahan for Dumba is pretty close to an even 1 for 1 trade.

I like Dumba a lot but that’s a big hole down the middle. Lindholm better be able to switch over, which he hasn’t proven yet. Bennett isn’t there, despite the POs.

Typical Francis trying to stir the pot and screw the Flames any way he can.
