$6 million for Meyers isn't insane.
It's a little expensive, but much much better than I think most people were expecting.

He's a second pairing guy in rfa so agree it's not entirely horrible. It is more than 5 of our 6dmen earn though. If I'm Hamonic or Brodie I'm pretty excited by this.

There were rumors of up to 7.5 million and 8 years circulating..

The actual contract is more of a typical free agent overpayment, as opposed to the franchise killing contracts that were rumored.

Yep, I think he's more of a $5 million guy, but that extra million is the price of free agency.

He will be 35 at the end of the deal. Hopefully it's a disaster by then.

Not as bad as I was hoping for but still a lot of money for a 4/5 guy.

Especially in the midst of an off season that made Jeff Skinner a $72 million man. Still can't believe that happened. The entire NHL is a ship steering itself into an iceberg named lockout.

8 years was just stupidity as only the Jets could offer that! Myers is worth 4-5m tops in my admittedly amateur world.

For once we agree on something... it's still really, really bad, but it's not as much or as long as was expected.

... But it's still really bad.

Jordie Benn deal will land around 2x2M. Replacement for Ben Hutton.

I wonder how this is going to work out for the Canucks this year. They have essentially made-over their entire defense replacing Gudbranson, Hutton, Pouliot and Biega, with Myers, Hughes and Benn. That's a lot of turnover in a short period of time, and we know that defensemen in particular take some time to adjust with new teams. It's still not a great looking blue line in Vancouver, and with the expected period of adjustment the Canucks could have a rough start to the season.

Don't they still have Biega?

You also have to include Hughes in the makeover, as he'll be playing top 4 minutes for them this year as well as PP.

The thing is, the new blue line is clearly better than the old, but it's still not great, and much of the improvement involves getting rid of Gudbranson. It's hilarious, it's like Jim Benning has a curse where he's never allowed to be without a terrible contract on the back end. They get rid of Sbisa and get Gudbranson. They get rid of Gudbranson and get Myers. It's the circle of awfulness.

I think that Benn contract is okay. 2 million for a reasonably experienced guy who can suit up every night is okay.

I think the Canucks defence with these guys is better. Don't think its good enough but they will be better.

$30 m for Tyler Myers is not a good signing. At best, it's a palatable signing.

Which on July 1 is about as good as it gets.
