I have a feeling we will see a Faulk for Puljujarvi trade (with maybe additional pieces to balance the trade out depending on how stupid the parties involved get).

Oilers have been rumored to be after Faulk for a long time.

I can see Dundon being enamored by the chemistry Aho and Puljujarvi showed at the WJC.

I sure hope they make that trade. Another potential star winger for a mediocre defenseman. Faulk, like Brodie, is not the same that he used to be. And I bet Puljujarvi would find his game in Carolina with the other Finnish boys.

I could also see Faulk for RNH.

With Peters in place, I have little doubt he'll try to convince Treliving to pluck a player or two he really loves in Carolina. By some accounts, he favoured Derek Ryan.

Would love to see Skinner come here.

Faulk has a big shot but his game is lacking in other areas. He would be a great #4D but used on the 1st PP.

Would the Flames try a guy like Lindholm on the wing? Otherwise, I'm not sure there is much of a fit with the Hurricanes trade wise.

Though I wouldn't be shocked to see Cam Ward (UFA) signed in the off season as a "just in case"

I would think that the Canes would want a kings ransom to go with Poolparty. He's looked terrible in the AHL and the NHL and looks about as brain dead as Yak.

He's pretty much a reclamation project.

And its well known that the Oilers need help on the wings and on defense and no one is going to do team "Not if but how many" any favors. The blood is in the water.

Lindholm would fit just fine on the Flames as a center. Flames need another top 2 center.

Oilers have already said the #10 pick is in play too. Carolina could end up with 2 picks in the top 10.

Come on...he just turned 20 years old a week ago. His PPG last year was almost identical to Sam "gonna break out anytime" Bennett, but with about 150 fewer NHL game experience.

I get the hate for all things Oiler, but that's just goofy.

Yeah I think Puljajarvi is still a good prospect and will find his game, particularly with a change of scenery.

Faulk for Puljajarvi makes a lot of sense to me.

I think that’s silly talk.

Yakupov had knocks on his ability to use his teammates in his draft year. Puljujarvi had no such concerns. I don’t think they are similar in terms of types of player or prospect at all.

Puljujarvi is like many top picks, hasn’t put it all together yet. I’d say he’s far from reclamation status.

Heck I’d try Puljujarvi on the Flames. Brodie or Stone for Puljujarvi I’d do. Just cause the Oilers have stunted his development a bit doesn’t mean his upside has disappeared.

I get what you're saying, and I respect your wisdom. But he's looked completely overwhelmed in the AHL and even worse in the NHL.

Maybe he needs a change of scenary, maybe he needs better coaches, or an organization that will take care of his needs.

I'm not necessarily on the Sam Bennett will break out train yet. However with Bennett, at least he gives you options, you can play him throughout your forward lineup and there's a chance that he can do something useful, maybe become a good 2nd line option or bottom 6 grinder that pitches in.

But with Poolparty my sense is its top 6 and wing or bust.

What would it cost to get Jordan Staal? 29 years old (6M x 5) left

Could the Flames get as much for Backlund ? 29 years old (5.35 x 6) if they had to create cap space?

I don't think that Carolina would be interested in an even up trade.

Staal has 73 playoff games with Pens

I take it you’ve seen a lot of his AHL games then? His numbers aren’t bad in the AHL considering he’s far younger than most players in that league. Much like Kylington he went there as a teenager in a men’s league with players far older than him.

The problem from the Oilers' POV is with their impending cap crunch they're counting on Puljujarvi to make an impact on his entry-level contract. They can't be trading away guys like him. I think it's more likely they move RNH for a d-man. And if the Hurricanes are moving on from Staal, they'll need a #1C.

Even if they keep Staal they need a number one center. There is not a playoff team in the league that Staal is a number one center on. A decent second line center and a dynamite 3rd line center, but a 1st line center he is not.
