Default RIP, Ed Asner dead at 91

It's a Long Way to Tipperary.

Betty is now the only one in this curtain call left after we lost Gavin and Cloris earlier this year too.

Younger viewers will recognize him as the voice of Carl in Up. In fact, there's a new series starting on Disney+ this week called Dug Days that follows the dog from Up and Asner provided Carl's voice for the series.

Judging by his IMDB page, we'll be seeing a number of projects featuring Asner in the coming years.

Ah Ed Anser...he had a good run.

Odd that he passed on the same day as Ed Asner.

In all seriousness though, the guy had an amazing career.

RIP Santa.

Related little fun fact. Ed Asner had some relatives that lived just around the corner from my parents in Windsor. He visited them fairly often. My parents knew the family casually, sadly they never got to meet him.

Incredible he was still working. The guy was playing crotchety middle-aged characters 50 years ago.

I loved him in everything he was in.

For me tho it was his character in The Boondocks as Ed Wuncler I. His character represented capitalism and he was great at it. Started in episode one when he was talking about his grand son who was a parody/ represention of George Bush Jr.
"In 30 years, that boy will be the president of the United States. And he'll still be a ####ing idiot."

In the last episode 3 season his final scene is just fantastic.
He played the villian of the series to perfection.

To be honest I didn't realize he was still alive. Feels like he would be over 100 by now. RIP.

There was something that bugged me about Asner that I couldn't quite remember. I looked it up: Yep, he was a 9/11 truther and had some odd beliefs about the holocaust.

Later, Ed.

????

He was extremely left. He often worked with Jewish organizations to raise funds. He himself is Jewish and was raised orthodox. I couldn't find any weird beliefs on the Holocaust quite the opposite infact. He was a deep believer in the Holocaust was real and often promoted raising awareness of it fighting deniers . The only thing "weird" if you just did a cursory glance on Google search would be he acted in a play called "The soap therory" that was a fund raiser for the Holocaust centre of Pittsburgh. If you actually deep dive into the play it's not weird at all.
