Why not just go to West Edmonton Mall? The whole city is stuck in the 80s.

Its not a mall anymore. Renovated to be all parking facing with no inside "mall" anymore.

Beddington Mall is fairly ghetto... Northland is far more upscale by comparison! I'm curious about Brentwood... literally haven't stepped foot inside for about 20yrs. I agree w/ DoubleF about Banff having some real sketchy areas, some downstairs areas of mini-malls along main Banff Ave (maybe that place that does the fudge?).

I don’t think I’ve ever heard the word sketchy used to describe Banff before, perhaps rustic would be a more suitable term?

Can you book a children's birthday party at the 17 Ave McDonald's? That would be a great 60s diner backdrop.

Brentwood Mall had been renovated about 7 or 8 years ago. Mostly big box furniture stores nowadays.

Macleod Mall?
When I was in high school my crush worked at Woolco.
She used to wear tight red jeans.

I'd say North Hill and Westbrook; any women's clothing store with the proprietors name as the same of the store (”Brenda's”) is a good bet. McLeod Mall and Deer Valley were of similar ilk.
But there is a relic of old malls in Calgary in a very specific spot. The starwell and hallway down in Chinook Centre to where the bowling alley entrance is.
Untouched since the 60s when it built it seems, original floors and walls and ceilings and fixtures; an overall ambience as to what Chinook was in the entire mall up until the late 80s.

^^^ I remember that stairwell lol.
In addition to the bowling alley in the basement there was a library.
The rental shoes at the bowling alley left a lot to be desired.

That Sundance Mall. There is still the tiny tiny sports card shop down there. Was a bar down there as well but not so sure anymore, along with a revolving door of stores over the last couple decades.
Sketchy may not be the right word, but dark and dated for sure.
Many of those buildings have basements that were functional because they needed to be to utilize space, and newer development or redevelopment just wasn't and isn't allowed on that part of Banff Ave. So to with the malls that stretch from Banff Ave all the way back to the back alley as well. There's a couple bars no longer around that are in basements. The 5 ft high ceilings in the basement of the Bay, etc.

Plus a barber shop where I used to get haircuts as a youth.

Let the record show that I had an adult McDonald’s birthday party at Cold Garden in October 2019. I had a legit kids one in the Glenmore Landing McDonald’s in the early 90’s. Thought it would be fun to bring it back, adult style. Birthdays are kind of ridiculous as an adult, and I like to embrace that. My wife and I went all out, getting a bunch of McDonalds pins and Happy Meal toys from Crossroads Market. The Grimace and Hamburglar pins went fast among my friends. On an unrelated note, McNuggets and IPA’s are a lethal combination...
I’ve been checking out these malls on Google. I’m familiar with most of the Calgary ones but there’s some nice surprises. That mall in Camrose is wild! Of everywhere I’ve looked at, it’s the closest to what I want. That movie theatre!! As someone who grew up right by Chinook Mall in the 90’s, these posts are giving me a chuckle. I have a musical side project (surfy garage rock) that I’m calling Easy Street as an ode to the arcade. Thanks again for all your posts. Really grateful for this community. I can’t believe I almost posted about this on Facebook instead.

Tramps went out of business long ago and rightfully so. No chance they'd be viable today.
Video Game Traders has probably been around longer than tramps and has specialized in video games the entire time. This isn't a new revelation.
