All the GMs have officially went crazy. The guy is a 4/5 d-man who puts up maybe 30 points a season and is average from an advanced stats perspective
Plus he’s 29 (turns 30 next season) so you’d be locking him up until he’s 37 years old.
Canucks seem to be the front runner. Crazy to think that instead of doing things like buying an extra first round pick like Carolina did they are giving up firsts for JT Miller and offering Tyler Myers $50M+ dollars.

I don't see an issue with this. I would run with what they have.
Gaudreau Monahan Tkachuk
Bennett Lindholm Neal
Dube Backlund Ryan
Mangi Janko Hath/Czarnik
Frolik can go in there if they end up keeping him and moving someone else.

That's an insane deal for Meyers if true.
We'll see though.

Still lots of flexibility with this forward group. Especially in the bottom six. Being able to push backlund in the third pair really depends on Neal bouncing back, or another one of the forwards breaking out though.

Yeah, an alternative is moving Lindholm back to C, on the second line, and pursuing top six RWs.
Lindholm is a good 2C in this league, adding his new level of point production to already having the faceoffs down and experience at the position. He's got the edge on Backlund if moved full time to the middle IMO.
A good RW will be easier for Treliving to net than a good center.
Connolly (#1 target for me), Zuccarello, Williams are FA options. But a trade from our D for a winger would be the route I would take.
And if you have a sliver of a chance at Pavelski then you jump on that, of course.

There is no cap space for any of this.
There has been a salary cap for 15 years. Can we start incorporating it into our team building and trade posts?

My apologies, I was being deeply sarcastic about the idiotic nature of the vast majority of 'hockey men' in positions to make hockey ops decisions.
"BIG = GOOD" is I believe the correct nomenclature on this board.

How about incorporating the concept that Treliving isn't not allowed to make moves to shed cap as well.
He absolutely would have ideas on how he can accomplish that if the right player and right fit came knocking.
Whether that means getting picks for Brodie, buying out Stone, and whatever other multitude of things that can be done..

Miller at least is a decent player while Myers is not.

At this point, my model figures Myers provides bottom pairing value and it’s only a matter of time before that value disintegrates further.

This is that time of year where GM's feel they need to add players out of desperation of keeping their jobs. I expect the GM that signs Myers will likely be fired before the half way point of the deal as it's going to be a disastrous contract and the GM's willing to pay that money probably already have one foot out the door.

Call me bonkers, but I heard something promising from Monny in an interview earlier. Something along the lines of this being the first offseason in 3+ years where he’s gone into it at 100% health. And that he was looking forward to his first full offseason of full-on training in years.
So perhaps post-all-star / playoff Monny was just out of shape?

I think it’s been confirmed by legit sources that he had a thumb injury.
Which makes sense. He couldn’t keep the puck on his stick to save his life.

apparently Myers isn't even visiting other NHL cities during this period.
I hope he just really love Vancouver and will give us a discount. lol
also, rumours are saying the Canucks will be targeting/talking to Nemeth and J.Benn.

The Canucks should really be avoiding silly season. Eriksson is one too many bad contracts. Just sign Schenn, he was excellent down the stretch.

Good thing you used his initial, wouldn't want to get him confused with J.Benn.

I think Shenn will be hitting the market, the Canucks and his agent were at the draft to talk about an extension and no deal.
He was good but not enough sample size and we already have Biega as the 7th-8th guy.
Hutton and Tanev is going to be interesting, i think the Canucks will at least move one of them out and a couple of forwards from the roster this summer.

It's basically fazing out the middle class. There's going to be the high paid, the ELC and the boat anchor contracts playing. The teams that don't fall into that trap will be the "Red Wings of the era" going forward who perpetually make the playoffs and challenge for the cup.

I mean, one is a defenceman the other a forward, one is a UFA and the other is signed. this is the "free agent and courting period thread"
why would anyone get them confused?
