Brodie is probably excited as hell to start this season after those two under Gulutzen. I bet we see a huge bounce back this year, and this news has me believing it even more.

That hardly seems fair. Brodie should insist on splitting time and having Giordano make the drive to Chatham for on-ice sessions.

...Also, this:

Four points and the first star in that game. I still think it was the greatest game I have ever seen Brodie play.

A few weeks back, Giordano was asked about Brodie and he said something along the lines of TJ feeling like he was way out of position the whole time on the left.

That gut feel and comfortableness is massive for a defenseman to miss.

Add to that the feeling that your coach is trying to sewer your career by insisting on playing you out of your most comfortable position. I bet you his moral was pretty low as well.

Brodie might be like top 3 in the backhand passing department league wide.
Having 2 seasons deprived of that glory alone makes me lament GG and Dave "Brouwerplay specialist" Cameron.

In GG's defence, Hamilton was useless (and probably complaining) when he wasn't paired with Gio.

This is going to be an interesting year for the back end. If Brodano can find a level similar to that of 3-4 years ago the top pair will be fine. The second pairing is where I have really high hopes. Like Brodie, Hamonic is coming off a couple of subpar seasons but he showed signs of improvement towards the end of the year.

I think Hanifin is poised to breakout and he and Hamonic have potential to be that 1b pairing the Flames hoped for when they acquired Hamonic to play with Brodie

Among the changes are his defence partner which will likely switch back to TJ Brodie with Hanifin coming in and Dougie Hamilton’s departure to the Carolina Hurricanes.

The two have already skated together this summer, with Brodie making the three-hour drive from Chatham, Ont., to Toronto in order to regain the chemistry they once had with each other.

“Brodes is an underrated defender and is really good with his stick,” Giordano said. “I just feel like we complemented each other really well. He’s more of a guy that can skate the puck out and lead the rush, and I’m more of a guy who jumps in. He’s so good at deception and holding pucks and then passing to you and giving you that open shooting lane. I think I really benefited a lot from playing with him all of those years. Those opportunities he creates for you … I enjoy those. You get a lot of chances playing with Brodes. There’s no doubt about that.”

In Hamilton's defence, GG was a disaster behind the bench and it took him and Cameron 50+ games to figure out that Hamilton should be on PP1.

Or is he driving to Toronto because he was traded for Nylander....

So if Brodano is a thing, what's the second pairing called? Hamofin? Hanomic? The Passion Within?

The crowd was chanting his name by the end of it. I honestly thought Brodie was going to have a monster season after that game. A shame it didn't work out that way.

But if there's a player who can get Brodie on track, it's Gio. The advanced stats might say otherwise, but I always thought Brodano was a better pairing then Gio-Hamilton ever was. It just seems the ice is tilted in the Flames' favour when the Brodano pairing is out there.

I've always thought that as Brodie goes, the Flames go. Probably more so then any other player (including Gaudreau). When he's on, it adds such a unique weapon to the back end. When he's struggling, the team doesn't do so well it seems.

It's too bad that Gio's gotten older, but if anything he's been aging like fine wine. I thought at times he was the Flames' best player last season. Whatever decline he is due, it doesn't look like it's here quite yet.

Fingers crossed Brodano can reacquire the magic they had.

Right side Brodie when he's wheeling and dealing is a very good player. If he can jump back up into 40 point territory being able to use his backhand again that'll help make up the difference in offence between Hamilton and Hanifin.

Just hope that he cleans up bad the turnovers in neutral ice (even though our slow methodical setup I think made us more susceptible to dangerous turnovers too). That's what we need from him on the top pairing.

  1. Brodano
  2. Hamofin
  3. Stonak
At some point this season, we might get to see Stondersson or Kulamaki.
