I am probably exactly the same age as CC. We walked away from our house, my father would get jobs that lasted only a few months, the house prices fell by about a third I seem to recall. It's a lot more palatable for you guys now because back then the unemployment was combined with interest rates around 20%; now, the money is practically free if you need a LOC or a 2nd mortgage to get by...

Oh my god. This is awful news. That poor family. Hopefully the person in critical condition pulls through with minimal long term damage.

Sounds like it was in the hydrocracker which would be a big explosion due to the presence of hydrogen.

This is now a last man standing game. When a few western oil companies start to self liquidating, oil will shoot back up. So whose going to voluntarily self liquidate? No one.

When does this start to spinoff to the rest of Canada? We've already felt the impact on a professional level but aren't seeing any impacts on a personal level here in BC yet.

Oil markets crash across the Middle East as Iran follows through with their obligations and sanctions on them are lifted. Qatari and Saudi stock markets have dropped 42% and 38% respectively since the Saudi initiated price war back in November 2014.

I really wonder how much of the successful conclusion of the Nuclear deal with Iran was motivated to punish the Saudis for their increased production.

If anything it's the other way around, the proposed Iran deal was probably one of the catalyst for Saudi Arabia to start the oversupply gambit.

Yes we do ship it to those areas (primarily out to Ontario and to Chicago) and yes it can mean more profit... However with the rise of US shale gas, the discount Alberta gas takes (ie: AECO basis) can blow out... For instance, producers selling out of North Western AB, unless they have firm service on Alliance or Nova, are likley selling interruptable, and receiving AECO less CREC. That means they are getting $.25-$.75 a GJ for their gas some months.

So long story short - depending on the contracts a company holds, yes, cold weather out east is the primary driver for demand-side price movement in the NA gas market.

Suncor increases its COS offer by 12%. Schulich and other major investments agree. The deal is likely to go ahead now.

Suncor Energy has raised the stock portion of its takeover offer for Canadian Oil Sands by 12 per cent, resulting in a $6.6-billion friendly deal that ends a public battle between the two Calgary-based companies.

Suncor (TSX:SU) is now offering to exchange 0.28 of a share for each share of Canadian Oil Sands (TSX:COS) — up from 0.25 of a Suncor share per COS share.

Because the offer is primarily an exchange of shares, its monetary value will fluctuate. Based on Friday’s closing stock price for Suncor stock, the new offer was worth $8.74 per COS share, up from $7.81 under the original formula.

COS shareholders got a very good deal. Given the fact that oil prices have dropped, what, 40% since the offer was made this is probably about a 100% premium on what they'd be worth today otherwise.

I was hoping that they'd pull the offer the first time then low ball again based on the lower oil prices since that first offer.

Let's be clear that this only the high-sulfur crude coming from North Dakota. Not surprising given the low quality of the oil. Not many producers want it or can do anything with it.
