The most important people must think otherwise or else they'd move him before the deadline.

Or at very least the value decrease being minimal compared to the value for the rest of the season of a team pushing to make it against all odds.

I just read this as the Flames aren't actively shopping him.

But doubt they'd actually tell teams NO outright without listening to offers.


Not moving him if someone wants to overpay, and so not improving the team long term, doesn't really send the "right message" to the team either.

The market will be filled be a lot of cheaper options that wont cost any assets.

If a 1st and Holtz was on the table, what do you think a slight decrease is? They couldn't even agree to compensation on retaining.
