Not offensively, but defensively that like comparing Gustafsson to Giordano

Absolutely. I just am not going to be sick about them paying a 1st rounder to essentially defer their problem contract a few years.

I don’t like a trade that includes Hanafin and OEL.
The cap in / cap out makes no sense from Calgary’s perspective. We finally have a decent guy on a decent contract, so let’s not trade for a bad contract.
Any trade involving those two should be nixed.

Hahah, yeah, I definitely agree.
I was just laughing because that's a very Oilers (read shortsighted) thing to do.

I wouldn't agree with that at all, both players are an adventure in thier own zone. At the very least, the gulf between them is not as gaping as your comparison would suggest.

No doubt the oilers will find a way to screw it up, but dumping neal and turning neanderthal into serviceable d man does make them a better team. Grabner is also no slouch.

That trade makes the Oilers considerably better team in the immediate future. If that trade was on the table the Oilers would be foolish to not make it as they can't afford to waste anymore of the McDavid's years.

If that deal went through the Oilers would be paying their top 3 players 36% of the flat cap. If OEL bounces back to legit number 1 Dman it is worth it for Edmonton but if the decline is on it would be a disaster.
What makes it unbelievable for me is dumping Neal. I don’t see anyone taking that contract on he is done

I could be wrong on this, but my understanding is that one of the driving factors for Arizona wanting to trade OEL is that they need to cut payroll by at least $10m.
So trading OEL+Grabner, $11.5m, for Neal+Nurse, $11.3m, doesn't do anything to help their payroll.
They will have to take back some cap in a OEL, but I think they will try find a trade where they shed as much cap as possible.

Giordano+Lucic+1st 2019+Kylington for OEL + Kuemper + Hall's rights
I would try and take it away from the oilers just to raise the price a bit higher.

Wait, I thought Neal was not movable?
OEL is better than Nurse. Grabner obviously better than Neal. So it comes down to the prospect and the 2021 first to make this work for Arizona. Ugly.

What FA goalie has signed in Vegas? Rumour of Lehner but that hasn't been finalized has it?

I'm kind of wondering if Rask might move if Boston is in on OEL. They could snag Kuemper on top. They'd essentially just be moving Rasks cost over to OEL.
Wonder what they want for Rask.

It would be hilarious if the Oilers trade happened, then the Flames did Kuemper and Hall's rights for Lucic and 1st.
And Neal and Lucic end up in Arizona together.
Somehow, that would be a perfect ending to the whole thing.

Unless the prospect in the Oilers rumour is Broberg, I don't see how that makes sense. 3 years of Neal for only a first seems a little light to get out of that contract. Cap wise I think Oilers add 250k, which isn't bad all things considered if it means getting out of Neal's contract.
Although starting in 21-22 OEL has 3 years of 10.5M real salary. Next season he gets 8M in reall dollars, so I can see why before 21-22 there is the push to trade him.

I think the McDavid window is closing soon if they don't make some major improvements within the next year. So I can see Holland going all out and acquiring a top 2 dman and emptying some cupboards to make a something happen for the 20-21 season.

I wonder why there are so many rumors around Kuemper. If Arizona wants to stay out of the basement with no 1st round pick, they will need him since he is carrying the team

They don't care about the basement, they care about running as lean as possible.

Money.
They just signed Adin Hill to a 1 year 800K contract, so they currently have 3 goalies under contract for next season.
