Disappointing -- not because I like the Stampede, but it could have provided an economic jolt had the conditions been right.

As it stands, there is no way it could happen this year.

It could have gone on but the restrictions would be insane. Like for example at Asian amusement parks.

Every person that walks into Stampede would have to wear a mask and every person would also be checked for their temperature before they enter the park. And they also would have to have a QR code from the government saying that they are not a carrier and then they have to wear their mask while they're in the park the whole time unless they're eating.

In end, everything might be over and Calgarians will have the greatest Stampede ever away from the grounds.

If anything good comes out of this pandemic, it would be the end of the custom of banks painting cartoon cowboys riding buck-teethed horses onto their windows.

Hay, I have a question.

For those companies that supply western decorations to businesses during Stampede... Are they going to need to receive a bale out?

Pancake parties? Had you ever once heard a pancake breakfast referred to as a pancake party?

Jokes aside, yes almost every business is screwed and we're in for a new economic reality when we emerge from these restrictions.

Since Stampede week is ripe with people having affairs, I suspect divorce lawyers won't be to happy about this

I'm sure all the people being locked up with their spouses for months on end is doing a good enough job of keeping the divorce lawyers busy.

The economic hits just keep on coming. This is going to be a pretty devastating year for this city. The Calgary economy supposedly see's a $540 million dollar boost from the Stampede. For a lot of the retail businesses that were probably praying for this to save their businesses, I expect they'll throw their hands up now.

Never been a big fan of the Stampede, but always appreciated what it did for the city. Kinda sucks, but completely within reason.
