This notion is refuted by a simple drive southbound on Deerfoot in the morning, where the crunch point is between Beddington and McKnight and it's smooth sailing thereafter, despite higher volume.

The owners of the NE section are suing the constructors for shoddy workmanship. Apparently the road is deteriorating faster than anticipated. They should probably include the SE section south of Glenmore to the big turn in their lawsuit, it’s horrible.

The 'owners' are the Province. So the Provincial government is suing the consortium that build and is maintaining the road? Isn't maintenance part of the contract and they would be required to fix it anyway? Or is the consortium suing some of the individual contractors?

It’s what happens when you provide contracts to the lowest bidder.

Saw this article posted elsewhere which gives some useful details for the situation. It's basically part of the P3 consortium suing another part of the consortium for quality concerns.

Thanks Mazrim, that makes more sense (consortium suing sub contractors). Sounds like way more than an $18 million fix.

Makes sense why the NE seems to get a lot of repair work done to it, although it's almost been a decade since it opened.

I drive the ring road very rarely, but every time I'm on it, it seems to be in awful shape. I'm not surprised there are legitimate concerns about it's construction.

Wonder when they add lanes to the NE portion, if they'll strip away the current pavement and repour it.

Construction resumes Spring of 2019: https://www.alberta.ca/assets/docume...ion-boards.pdf
Sort of related, is there any detailed information on or renderings of what the end result of the Glenmore Trail widening between 37th St SW and Crowchild Trail SW is going to look like when it's complete? It's right near my house and it's coming along really nicely, but I'm having a hard time envisioning what it's supposed to look like once completed, especially when you get closer to the 37th St interchange.
EDIT: I've found this: http://www.calgary.ca/Transportation...all_Design.pdf
Unfortunately it cuts off right where it shows the actual end result of the 37th St interchange, but if I were to guess, I'd say probably a diamond interchange.

I drove through the McLeod Trail/Stoney section on the weekend and it looks like it's going to be a gong show there this week. They were paving late Saturday night and it looks like they're moving the lanes to the new bridges temporarily.
