My understanding, which is probably wrong, is that the prime minister can declare a day of Mourning' (Usually the day of the funeral) and it may or may not be a stat, maybe? I dunno, it seems murky. Probably just Federal employees or whatever

Here's the short list of people chosen to replace Laurier on the five: https://www.bankofcanada.ca/banknote...es/#short-list
Lots of good potential names for the 20, 50, and 100 too.

If we were to drop the monarchy, there's no reason to think we'd abandon the Westminster system of government. Presumably, we would do what Barbados did when they switched to a Parliamentary Republic late last year. Their Head of State switched from being the Governor General, appointed by the Queen at the recommendation of the Prime Minister to the President, who is elected by the Parliament. In fact, the first President of Barbados was the last Governor General of Barbados.

So she didnt travel overseas after the age of 84?
This is an issue for you?

That's out of date too. Just glancing it is missing 2 British PMs and one American president.

I honestly don't care.
Maybe it should be an issue for the people who want to claim how valuable the presence of the monarchy is to Canada. We've gone more than a decade without a visit from the Queen and I doubt most Canadians have noticed or cared.

OK...but the monarchy isn't limited to the Queen or the King.
There have been lots of visits from those associated that will never see the throne and are always called royal visits.
Im niether a pro nor anti monarchist, because it has zero effect on my life, but listening to those that do not care for it (whatever the reason) today has been bizarre.

For someone coming to Canada from one of the many countries that has a brutal history of British colonialism, do you not see how that is perceived to new Canadian citizens?
Also, officers in the Canadian Forces must swear a similar oath to Her Majesty upon receiving their commission. Not an oath to defend the Canadian people and our national interests, not an oath to protect our freedoms and democratic principles, but an oath to a foreign monarch. I thought it was total BS when I took that oath, but I bit my tongue and decided to choose my battles. I still think it's total BS now, more than 25 years later.

Do not put that asshat on our money. He already thinks our money belongs to him. I don't want to be looking at that prick every time I pull a bill out of my wallet.

There are quite a few countries that use the parliamentary republic system where the president is basically a figurehead who promotes and represents their country on the world stage, while the Prime Minister and parliament sticks to day-to-day governing. Ideally, the monarch in a constitutional monarchy should be representing the country on the world stage in the same way a president would in the parliamentary republic. I don' think the British monarchy has any desire to promote Canada, nor do Canadians really want them to. It puts the Prime Minister in the position to be both the face of the country and the leader of parliament.

Don't really care.
But since you took the time to respond, you clearly do.

By that logic you must really care, since you took the time to respond to his comment.
