No one is defending Gunn. He sent the tweets and admitted it. There’s not much debate anywhere as to whether they are tasteless or not.

Fact is though, Disney knew about this. Anyone who cared to look knew about this. Vilifying a guy for 10 year old unfunny tweets seems extreme and unnecessary. What’s the point? It accomplished nothing.

Honestly, why does anyone care? Do you actually think he’s a pedo? If yes, sure, lock him up. If not, who gives a crap? What does vilifying him accomplish? Moral outrage that he purposely intended to be shocking?

Im not sure how this is a free speech issue? Gunn used his speech freely to advocate pro-pedophilia positions and make crude child rape "jokes". Hes now facing the consequences of his actions.

Sure, investigate him, but that would be like throwing every rapper in jail every time they mentioned drugs or violence in a song. It seems like a waste of law enforcement resources, I mean, seriously, people are getting this up in arms over tweets that constitute jokes in poor taste, if he'd actually raped a child in his life evidence and complaints would have shown up long before now.

This isnt a Hitler-saluting dog meme, and its not a bunch of bragging rappers. They arent "jokes". No 42 year old man "jokes" hundreds of times about how aroused he gets by raping and molesting children. This isnt youthful indescretion. He was often exchanging child molestation "jokes" with covicted child pornographers. He was caught red-handed deleting years worth of tweets. These are not the actions of an innocent man with nothing to hide.

Tweeting one or two crude jokes about children is one thing, highly questionable but could attribute to being stupid. The volume of such tweets from Gunn is what I find disturbing.

What I don't get is how social media outrage is quantified, and how the people who sanction their underlings determine where the line is where they 'have to do something.' Only a small fraction of people use twitter, and only a tiny fraction of those express outrage at these sorts of gaffes and offensives comments.

What would happen if twitter storms were simply ignored by the people in charge? Marginally more twitter outrage? Okay, ignore that too. 90+ per cent of people don't give a crap about any of this stuff.

Its sadly very true. Heres a link to an article with a lot more of the tweets than what Cruz put out, including his correspondence with Huston Huddleston, a man convicted of posessing child porn.

I have no problem with edgy jokes, unless of course you were "joking" about all the dead babies you yourself had murdered and how awesome it made you feel. Then I would get justifiably suspicious.
