Violent clash in Calgary between Eritrean Groups

In NE Calgary. It was shut down until this morning. Idiots running business and property of people who have nothing to do with this.

It's happening in other parts happened in Israel and the PM said the people who took part in it will be deported.

My wife saw police in riot gear, police on horseback, the armoured swat vehicle.

Hundreds of police officers showed up.

Same thing happened in Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland. Israel has said they are going to deport Eritrean asylum seeker back to Eritrea.

In Canada, I imagine a lot of them are officially citizens or landed immigrants, which makes deportation not possible, but I hope the ones responsible for the violence are charged appropriately. There should be zero tolerance for exporting violence.

I'd read there was accusations that organizers of Eritrean festivals were sending money back from Canada to support the current government, which is very oppressive to the other group of Eritreans, who are pissed about it and thus protesting the festivals, leading to fights.

No idea what the groups are, I know the country is split ethnically/religiously. Also no idea if those claims are substantiated or if that is the disinformation.

Calgary police say they're investigating a "violent conflict" between two groups involving around 150 people Saturday night that may be linked to clashes within the Eritrean community.

Police responded to an incident in northeast Falconridge at around 5 p.m. Saturday after reports of two groups with opposing views engaged in violence. They said they believe up to 150 people were involved, and many were brandishing weapons.

"They were actively trying to assault the police officers. I think the fact that we have multiple people injured, some with some fairly serious injuries, I think the whole incident is troubling. On top of that, this impacted the entire city because we had to pull resources from other areas," said O'Brien.

EMS spokesperson Adam Loria said in an emailed statement that paramedics attended an incident in northeast Calgary with the Calgary Police Service at approximately 5:30 p.m. Saturday, and 11 individuals with non-life threatening injuries were taken to various hospitals.

Yup. Happened during an Eritrean festival in August that the city had to shut down due to fighting between rival groups. They cancelled the other day that was planned. It's happening all over the world between the same groups.
