As far as the Flames are concerned, they have them at a 77% chance of making the playoffs and a 11% chance of winning the Pacific division.

But what about the Oilers? Rishaug's comments set a high bar yesterday.

I'll take a nearly 4 in 5 chance to make the playoffs considering how we looked a couple weeks ago. We still have better odds than most of the teams in the Central or the Metro division, and there are some really good teams with odds lower than ours. Thank god we play in the Pacific and thank god the Oilers can be counted on year after year for their no-goodness!

16 teams in the playoffs - a 2/16 chance of being in the final, and a 1/16 chance of winning the cup without factoring in anything else.

Of note, they have Calgary's chance to win the Stanley Cup at 6%.
That's tied with Winnipeg for 2nd in the Western Conference, with Nashville sitting in 1st at 9%.
Also, I love The Athletic.

Wouldn't all teams who make the playoffs have a 13% chance at making it to the finals (1/8 teams) and a 6% chance at winning the cup (1/16 teams)? haha

Looks like these probabilities are based on current standings only. Not sure I understand the rationale or value of these predictions.
