Who is the favorite in the mayoral race? Farkas? Haven't seen any polls.

Early, but I'd guess it'll be between Farkas, Gondek, and Davison.

It seems very early still. Farkas is really has been pushing the ground game early by trying to get signs up since earlier this year to get his name recognition out there. I figure that come middle of next month (or maybe after federal election now), you'll start to see Gondek and Davidson start their push. Do it to be fresh on people's minds when the election is approaching.

I noticed the final day to submit the nomination papers for the municipal election is noon on September 20 -- which is also the date of the federal election. The rules also allow a candidate to withdraw their nomination within 24 hours of the closing of nominations.
I wonder if Chahal might file to run again in Ward 5 on the 20th and if he wins the federal seat, he could withdraw on the 21st. If he loses, he could stand for re-election to Council.

Any insight into Rob Ward?

Going from Nenshi to Farkas would be quite the change in style.

And a huge disaster.
I’ve seen more Davison signs than anyone else but that means little.

Farkas would be a huge step backwards for Calgary. I honestly don’t know who I would vote for, but it won’t be him.

After poking around some campaign websites and such - I'm leaning towards Heather McRae in Ward 7.
And Farkas can Fark himself.

Chahal hasn't formally filed paperwork to withdraw his nomination yet, so I suspect you're right....if he loses the federal election, he just won't withdraw his nomination papers and stay on the ballot for his current ward in the municipal election.
Farkas is so, so far head of the other two mayoral candidates that I can't see them catching up, but Nenshi was almost a total unknown at this stage eleven years ago, so anything can happen.

Last poll was Farkas 20, Gondek 12, Davison 5. Undecided 46
At this time in the race in 2010 McIver was about 40, Nenshi 4
An 8pt lead is nothing. With high Farkas name recognition because how he does things, I’d have expected a much higher number similar to McIver’s.

And that's just pure name recognition, nothing else. Once people actually start seeing Farkas and listening to him speak, I think his numbers drop off a cliff. He has zero charisma

I'm between her and Erin Waite so far in Ward 7.
Terry Wong signs have been popping up alongside all the Farkas signs, he plans to get things done by doing the right things and doing them right and his transit policy says that Calgary is a winter city and cars are often the most convenient.

Yep, and many of that undecided are probably not available to Farkas.

You’re underestimating how much his message resonates with older Calgarians. When my mother-in-law found out I wasn’t a fan she was astonished. She said she didn’t know anyone - neighbours, friends - who wasn’t a Farkas supporter. Same with my mom. She called his office last winter because her crescent is never plowed. The next day it was ploughed. All her neighbours are big fans too. And the thing about old people is they all vote.

I have spoken to all three. I do think that Gondek would be the best mayor, overall. She is enthusiastic, positive, well-educated, well-spoken and, most importantly to me, sincerely wants to help build a better Calgary. Farkas is all about cutting costs. Davison - I could not even tell what he stands for, to be honest.
Having said that, I don’t believe the “OMG, Farkas will be a disaster!” sentiment. He is only one of 15 votes in most cases, he is not a conniving weasel and he is not a fool. Not much will be built in this city under him. But the streets will be cleaner, that’s for sure.

LOL.

He IS a conniving weasel, he's just managed to fool people into thinking he's genuine. Make no mistake, him being the face of Calgary will be a massive embarrassment for us at some point.

Why? Do you have examples?
(I don’t like Farkas as a politician, but I don’t think your assessment is fair)
