I'm really excited to see what Bennett can do. I've thought he's looked good defensively lately, and he's been bringing the physicality, but his offense is really concerning.
Hopefully being on that 3M line will help him build some confidence.

Capitals will be motivated after struggling and playing at home too. Will be a tough one.

The Caps GameDay thread on HF has been all about Brouwer so far. How exciting.

Glad Bennett is getting a chance to play on the wing. He sorely needs a boost in offence
I was hoping the Flames would reward Jankowski with a couple of games for his play on the farm this year, I'm okay with Hathaway being called up to eat popcorn. Hoping Freddy is ready tonight.

Who is the female voice on the afternoon show on 960. Is she a caller? Why is she talking?

Did she seriously just suggest that Michael Stone is a good bottom pairing defenseman?
*EDIT* She is from Flamesnation. That explains a lot.

I think the Caps have been very flat lately as they are focussed almost entirely on the post-season. We might be able to jump on them early with a good start.

Must be Ari.
She had an article last week claiming Stone is a 3rd pairing defenceman.
His advanced stats have been bad this year, so she's made up her mind on him regardless of the fact he's looked like a perfect fit for Brodie on the 2nd pairing.
Another advanced stat advocate who ignores on-ice results when it doesn't match their narrative.

The Caps have been inconsistent over the last little bit (I think 5-5 in their last ten).
Hopefully with the forwards shifting around we can still stick to the stingy system that's served us so well the last few months and play a solid road game to pull it off.
It will be a challenge and a good test as they're very offensively dangerous.

Yeah I don't understand the hate for Stone since he has come to Calgary. I know his advanced stats prior to arriving here were nothing to write home about, but have they not improved since arriving?

Yeah, that was her.
She offered that while Stone has done a good job of stabilizing the second pair he should not be considered a long-term solution. Again, she sees him as a good #5–6 defensemen, but suggested that the Flames should pursue someone like Shattenkirk(!) to fill that #3–4 hole.
That is ridiculous.

I disagree with her assessment that Brodie would pair better with Shattenkirk. Stone is a better compliment to Brodie. We don't need another offensive dman playing with Brodes, we need a big bodied shutdown guy who can keep up. If the Flames are going to throw money at Shattenkirk (doubtful), I'd rather they go for Alzner then. Or ideally, just sign Stone at a reasonable cap hit, and better use the money elsewhere.

Yeah. A lot of people who post there are like that. There was also this very unflattering piece on Stone from Christian Tiberi.

How can someone who's so hung up on statistics suggest something like signing a player who will command as much salary / term as Shattenkirk?
Are the statistics that comprise the maximum in team salary not an issue?
I think the #4 slot is a unique one. In Stone's case after coming off the injury and playing on a putrid team, I like the stability he's brought in that spot. Hopefully we'll continue to see that over a larger sample size.

Reminds me of the advanced stats guy Rob Kerr always brings on. Rob Vollman maybe?
Always acts like he is an expert of players he clearly doesn't watch. I remember him definitely saying Curtis Glencross had almost no trade value compared to the other names out there at the deadline 2 years ago, stating his advanced stats proved he would return a 4th or 5th round pick I believe.
Cut to the Glencross for 2nd and 3rd round picks trade.

If you only watched Stone this year pre-Flames, yeah, he looked like a bottom pairing guy. He's impressed me in the middle pairing with Brodie. I haven't seen a glaring mistake yet, and he's better offensively than I thought, at least in the offensive zone.

I basically just read Freeway's articles on there nowadays. Sometimes go over the GDTs/PGTs. If it weren't for Freeway that site wouldn't get a lot of views from me tbh.
Ever since Backlund has found a new groove this season (their poster boy player over the last few seasons), they've been more smug than usual, particularly when advanced statistics are the topic of discussion.
It makes most articles sound like they're written by a stats-monkey version of John Weisbrod.
