You don't know that. There are many teams that could afford to offer Tkachuk just as much money as the Flames can. Until he gives them a chance to bid, he has no way of telling which one is willing to overspend the most.

If only Treliving had known that Johnny was not going to sign prior to the draft, he could have possibly moved Tkachuk to New Jersey for the #2 overall and one of New Jersey's top prospects (Holtz was the speculation). Could have eased our pain with Shane Wright and Alexander Holtz to kick off our rebuild/retool. Woulda, coulda, shoulda.

We just sucked more than anything. McDavid hits another level against us and Markstrom can't play against him. More a Calgary issue than anything.

The Oilers with Kane were as good as any team in the West not named Colorado. I don't consider them to be a great team, but they are a threat. Goaltending and defense look like it will still be an issue. I also wonder how Kane settles in now that he is comfortably set up for the next 4 years and no longer playing for his livelihood.

Backlund, Markstrom, and Andersson don't really seem to have a problem mixing it up. I can't see the Swedish continent having a problem with the way Chucky conducts himself.

Ya until they beat us no one was saying anything about them then they got swept by Colorado in an uncompetitive series.

Watch Kylington and Tkachuk tag team chirping Kane in game one.

And why couldn’t they just make the same trade (that was never on the table btw- I can confirm ) today then? Because Wright wasn’t drafted? Because NJ no longer wants MT a week later despite not adding anyone ?
This trade was never happening

Not sure how everything else pans out, but it's interesting that the jackets, wings, Sens, canes all much better as of now. All eastern teams.
West seems pretty meh outside of the avs. Sucks but might be a reason the flames don't decide to rebuild/retool...

Actually jeez, I actually looked at capfriendly and it’s even going to be tough to properly sign all three of Tkachuk/Mangiapane/Kylington to 8 year deals. Need to move out at least one contract to make it work. Either that or move one of them.

Holtz was never part of the proposal, that was just wishful thinking and speculation by fans. It was 2nd overall plus something like a 3rd rounder

St. Louis gave Colorado a hell of a lot more trouble than the Oilers did.

I missed that in Trevliving's presser, what a Moron, with my great GM history, I would have got rid of that dead weight in a instant.

Columbus have anything worthwhile in the prospects cupboard? Should try to send Monahan over there.

JT Miller would be a nice fit on the Flames. Sounds like he’s not super happy in vcr. Not a free agent though I believe.
I don’t mind Kadri either. Both would add some grit and almost replace Johnny’s production.
