Place must have been bleeding money for them to walk away like that.

Both the Burger 320 location and the Vietnamese place on Kensington Road have "leased" signs now. Anyone know what's coming?

I've heard some big players are looking at the Julio's space, including Joeys/Earls, and Craft.

Those are two encouraging posts, will be interesting to see what goes in those spaces.

I get that it's a pretty discrete location from Eau Claire, but there's a Joey's that is a five minute drive from the Julio's location.
At least an Earl's would allow you to avoid downtown proper and has a good happy hour. But really neither of those restaurants get me excited.

If you've ever been there when it's -30C out, you'd know why they are thinking about moving.

Good that’s a prime location for an insurance advisor or a bank. We need more of those.

Crazy, they had a grand re-opening within the last 2 years...don't think there were particularly significant renos, but just new ownership (not sure about Second Cups franchise situation)?
The place was never empty, but rarely full. I suppose $5 spend to sit for 2 hrs doesn't really pay the bills.

I was surprised by Second Cup closing too. It was a new franchise operator, they were featured this year in the Hillhurst-Sunnyside Voice community newsletter that comes out. From England originally I believe.
Here is a good run down of what has being going down in Kensington lately from Skyrisecities member haltcatchfire:
Closures over the last little while and announced as coming up:
- Fitness equipment store near Shoppers
- Prohibition
- Jugo Juice
- James Dickson Clothiers
- Canvas painting
- Vietnamese restaurant
- Toy store
- Starbucks
- Bernard Callebaut
- Lingerie store
- Juice bar
- Nepal goods store
- Fake flowers store
- Burger 320
- Second Cup
- Julio’s Barrio
New openings:
- Good trade coffee (in Jugo Juice)
- PB&J YYC (Peanut butter & jelly Calgary airport??)
- Pet Planet
- High end pet goods
- 420
-KPop Nails (moved into the InGear building)
- Construction has been happening in the Prohibition (Molly Malone’s) building lately
Relocations:
- Naked Leaf moved into the Canvas spot
- InGear moved to 10A behind the new pet goods
- Splash of Fashion moved to 12th St

Between this and the Cat cafe, one thing is for certain, the pets will soon take over. I for one, welcome our new feline overlords.

Given the proximity to the river, I'm thinking of opening a pillowcase store.

Gave Good Trade coffee a try on the weekend. It’s in the old Jugo Juice spot. It was very good and it will be a good spot to hang out on occasion. Helps offset the loss of Starbucks, in terms of a venue, not the product. Quality is better, but the minimal menu variety won’t be for everyone. They have a 10th beverage free rewards card which is a plus.
