Here's a famous example of what is also not a handball according to the new interpretation. One of the first examples actually.) Confirmed by FIFA that this was exactly the point of the new rule.

And that's that. Griezmann has to be the most expensive player to buy now, no offense Pogba.

Well, let's hope that penalty won't end up deciding the game.

That's game.

Germany looked tired and out of ideas offensively after their 120 minute battle with Italy.

The question now is essentially this: did the player deliberately place his arms in a way that increases the chances of the ball hitting him. If you put your arms over your head in a wall, the answer would be "yes". if you use your hands to jump up, that should be "no".

The rule has been like this since 2012 or 2014, can't remember which. It's a newish interpretations. It's an easy rules change to miss, but the refs should know this stuff.
using your arms to jump up is one thing but by the time the ball arrives your arms should be down. who heads the ball with their arms in the air?

Poor Atletico. Although I generally think he doesn't want to leave so poaching him might not be easy.

Got out of a meeting and see the score, bummer. France is a really good squad and perhaps 120 minutes with Italy is too much to overcome

Not all timings are perfect, especially when there's another player fighting for the ball that you're in contact with.

Worth noting that not even the French players were calling for a handball. They were as surprised by the call as the Germans.

France have benefit from a very easy schedule too in terms of time off. Advantages of playing at home I guess.

Great game from Griessman, and Germany can't score without Gomez on the field it seems.

Gignac amazes me. That you can say "screw you guys, I'm going to Mexico!!!" and still get playing time in the French national team with the number 10 on your back is beyond incredible.

I guess Maradona's famous goal is legit then?

I think this call was a close one, but correct. France were lucky to be the beneficiaries, but that's the beauty of sports.

They actually had the shorter rest between the quarter's and semi's and now for the finals as well.

More time off earlier in the tournament but they had one less day off prior to this one.

The deliberate handball rule has only been the way it is for a few years. Again, I don't expect all fans to know it has changed. I do expect the referees to know.

This type of call was pretty much exactly what they wanted to change.
