I was being slightly facetious about them having plenty of water due to the fact they're flooded. But yes, my cousin's church just now posted some info regarding the Drop In.

Hello Church Family,

I just go off the phone with our friends at the Drop In Center. Themselves and many of the other shelters have had to evacuate and they need our help. They are currently housing 800 people in a temporary facility.

They don't have food or blankets. Here is how we hope to respond as a church.

1. We need to make several sandwiches ASAP. At 11:30 am we hope to start a food assembly line at FA. We will be making sandwiches. We hope to have the supplies here by then. We need several volunteers. If it's convenient for you to help we need you here by 11:30 am or ASAP.

2. If you have any pre packed granola bars or similar items that you can part with please bring them to the church. (anything wrapped that doesn't need to be prepared)

3. If you have spare blankets that you can part with please bring them to the church. We will be making trips to temporary facility through out the day.
4. Please do not try to go to the Drop In Center's temporary facility. We will assign volunteers from here as they request them.

Please bring all donations to FA, 6031 Elbow Drive SW. If you have any questions you can call the church at 403 253 7136. Someone will take your call.

The Zoo's Public Relations lady said on Global about 30m ago that the Courthouse cells are their "last resort contingency plan", and that the big cats are still at the Zoo, until it becomes necessary to move them.

I just saw CFD's Chief on Yahoo news saying animals removed to the courthouse. Video at this link (scroll down to video beneath the story about Momo and Kevan) - it plays through several different videos before it gets to the Chief talking about it.

Deerfoot is already closed southbound at Southland. The water was just touching the edge of the NB lanes when I went by about a half hour ago. I'd say less than an hour before they shut it down. They're predicting 6,000 cubic meters per second of flow on the South Saskatchewan River tomorrow, which is fed by a combination of the Bow (and thus the Elbow, Highwood, Sheep) and the Oldman through Lethbridge (which is cresting now, give or take).

The Mississippi drains the majority of the United States... most water in the US ends up in a river that leads to the Mississippi. At Baton Rouge near the Gulf of Mexico, the average flow would be like 12,000 to 18,000 cubic meters per second.

So in a sense, the South Sask tomorrow will flow nearly half of what the entire Mississippi system flows on a regular basis.

An email to members from the zoo from a half hour ago said mentioned only two types of animals being relocated off the zoo: zebras relocated to the zoo ranch (outside of the city), and only the pot-bellied pigs have been relocated to a city facility.
