Still two big days for that to happen though. Draft this summer and deadline next year.

Or Cammalleri, Giordano or any of the other guys that might be wearing different jerseys this time next week. It is a little odd.

It's not jus the Flames. Besides the two Pitts moves, there's been almost no substantial news of any kind from any team. May be a function of the compressed/shortened schedule, but it's weird.

With the news so far I don't think I can handle more Flames related news.

That's because everyone worth trading on Calgary has a NTC.

Things are so bad in CGY these days that people are manufacturing things just to whine about.

I don't think it's a stretch to think or say that the limitations on movement for many players on the Flames roster is at least a minor obstacle in trade negotiations.

How do you suppose your colleages will look at you after seeing that happen? Sure, one or two people might think it was ballsy, but most will not be impressed.
If Feaster gives in because "something is better than nothing", how do you think future dealings will go with his colleagues? They will know that if you hold out long enough, he'll fall for scraps. In some situations, when you consider long term image problems, nothing is preferrable. Hopefully it doesn't come to that, but if the Iginla trade doesn't yield meaningful assets, I'd rather the Flames make a stand.
|
Feaster will look like a moron if he let's Iginla walk for nothing in the summer. Trading him for a late first rounder, which I believe, at the minimum is out there now, would be viewed at doing the prudent thing. Passing up on a first round pick for pride and to have Iginla around for the last few weeks of the season will not help the Flames or the Flames reputation in any way, shape or form.

Other than Stempniak i can't think of a player that does not have some sort of clause that has value. Does Hudler have a clause?
I gues you could say Brodie and Sven but that would be stupid.

Does Calgary not have the most NMC in the NHL? Is that BS?

I agree. Also to the casual fan that does not keep up with trade gosip,it could look like Iggy left Calgary not caring about the flames. Flames ownership are not going to want to tarnish Iggy's legacy to anybody.

The Flames have 5 that are really restrictive. Iginla, Glencross, Bouwmeester, Wideman and Giordano.
The rest are modified, limited or expired NTC's and don't present nearly the barrier that the hyperbole spewers around here would like us all to believe.

While i some what agree with your assumption, at the end its just your assumption that the other NTC's do not cause a barrier.

These comments are crazy. Kessel isn't chopped liver either and he is only 5 years older than Sequin (and outscoring him every year). It is a trade that worked out for both teams, so if Feaster stands his ground and it works out good on him.

Something is going on in Boston tonight.
Also if the Bruins get Paajarvi, I would take him.
Kid had talent but was rushed by the Oilers. Perfect change of scenery candidate.

|
I have to imagine that they'll accept a lower offer if the alternative is losing him for nothing. It's a dangerous game to play to let him go to free agency, loyalty in sports is somewhat overrated. Losing him for nothing would be catastrophic. I do think he'll get dealt, but not till maybe Tuesday afternoon or even into Wednesday, just to make everyone sweat it out even more.

Even if Seguin and Kessel are a wash (and they're not, Seguin is clearly going to be better), that means they got a potential top D man for free. Not to mention the 5 years means a lot in terms of UFA and money on contracts. It is probably in the top 10 most lopsided trades ever.
