Flames get Dubes cap hit taken off the books, giving them extra flexibility heading into the deadline.

NJ gains flexibility too and already had 9+ in deadline space because of Hamilton… hmmm Marky + a D at 50 percent might be a possibility??

I would be too but I really don’t know what the Boston model is. Have to give them credit as an organization that has seemed to stay competitive year after year no matter what happens. They frequently trade their first round picks. They have had veteran players play late into their thirties and remain top players in the league. And they have seemingly not missed a step when those players leave as someone else steps up… even players that no one thought would be able to step up.
I just don’t know how to model a team after the bruins and be as successful as them. Not saying it can’t be done I just don’t know what it is that keeps them so good for so long. Every year, they are picked as a team that should be getting worse but they just remain a top team year after year no matter what. It’s been that way for most of the last 20 years.

2 division titles, 2nd overall...then guys bailed
besides,
who said just get in? certainly not me or Conroy. I just don't think you have to suck for years to get good, be smart.

Evgeny Kuznetsov into the PaP. Is that an LTIR thing too? Caps now with 7.5 in space if he is on LTIR.

Both are desperately needing goaltending and with games in hand considered are pretty closely tied in the wild card battle. With Marky still having term remaining it’s a really interesting thing to consider. I think the Devils are far more desperate than Philly though.

If Caps make use of that available cap space now, can they Kuznetsov return in the playoffs? (Assuming they made it)

Next year's floor should be about $64.8 million. Right now, the Flames have $62.76 million committed and that's with only 14 NHL players under contract.
It shouldn't be a problem.

Why would they be at the cap? Which terrible UFA signings do you expect them to make

Send Vladar to one and Markstrom to the other. Take Cal Petersen back from the Flyers and roll with Wolf and Petersen the rest of the season.

good ones that are traded for assets at the deadline
taking overpaid decent players with sweeteners...why wouldn't the Flames use their cap space? Montreal was over the cap and using LTIR to be compliant when we sent them Monahan.

Probs Vanecek for NJ, Philly likely isn’t looking to take on a vet goalie with term and their place in the standings is a bit of a surprise. NJ is underperforming and largely based on goaltending and adding a D wouldn’t hurt. Having the cap space and assets to do that deal as well as finding a dance partner who has both needs is a rare bird indeed, Flames take Vanecek back as well adds to the potential windfall of a Markstrom + Tanev or Hanifin at 50 %. Vladar is right up Philly’s alley IMO and a perfect fit for their short term need for immediate solutions in net, he’s used to sharing a crease and would do that with Ersson.
Maybe Vanecek rekindles a bit of past form and we can flip him by next deadline while slowly handing the net over to Wolf over that time period.
Markstrom + Tanev at 50 percent while taking Vanecek back has to be worth a good amount.
Vladar + 3rd for Morgan Frost?
Still Hanfin remaining in this hypothetical… it’s unreal to ponder the amount of prospects and draft capital the flames could have soon lol.
