Maybe some kind of test?

I bought one of these this winter and it's an absolute game changer. I can do the driveway, steps and sidewalk in about 15 minutes. Highly recommend.

When I drive into Calgary you can always tell where the city limits start. The highway goes from black to white.

I just use a balloon engine that I tip sideways and fire up. It does a great job on the driveway.

The scorching has evened out now so passers-by just think my driveway was always charcoal-black.

No more than if you use a lawnmower to cut your lawn in the summer. In fact, the lawnmower is probably more of an impact because people have their windows open.

A lawnmower is a much more pleasing sound to the ear than a leaf blower, it's not even close.

Worst part is, I know this. I didn't realize who I responded to until your post just now, though.

Not a test. The brined all the major roadways in the city in anticipation of snow that never came. Pretty crazy waste of resources as well not ideal for the environment, roads, or vehicles.

And if they hadn't applied it and we got the snow...
Sounds like a no win situation in your mind.

I don't doubt they've been doing it on the major roadways, the point I was trying to make was I haven't seen it on 8th so far yet this winter.

The pattern is so distinctive, it's hard to miss. Plus I would have heard the trucks that spray it, it's quite a different sound.

I’d look at this as a program. Spraying roads for x probability of precipitation cost x dollars. Each time we are successful it saves x person hours of time and x dollars of damages and x injuries. We predict successfully x percentage of the time.

Does the program make sense to continue.

It’s funny how often I hear from Ontarians about seeing people in AB using leaf blowers on snow. The snow is so wet here it’s inconceivable to use one of those.

Snow in a Canadian winter? No way! In my mind I feel they are way over salting/sanding for the amount of snow we receive. There are certain times when it's needed and certain places such as busy intersections, hills, etc but to have the sanding trucks on all the city roads for an inch of snow is a total waste of resources not to mention bad for the environment and vehicles.

15-25 cm (allegedly) incoming between now and tuesday

Radar shows the current system approaching from N-NW. Looks like the heavy stuff may hit part of the NE, but miss most of the rest of the city

Hopefully that holds true

Don't count on it, looking at the radar the west should see the most.

Looking more like the last storm where one part of the city gets 30-40 cm and another part gets only a dusting and wonders what all the fuss is about.
