So it looks like 5-7 is going to be where we place if things remain relatively the same. Means we're looking at Nichushkin/Lindholm/Monahan correct?

to move up 3-4 spots? doubt it. Glencross + our first + pitt first would get it done, and probably be an overpayment.

Sounds about right. Over-payment would be needed to trade into the top 3.

Since it seems more and more like we will be picking around 5-7 I would love to see the Flames get Monahan. A big skilled center that seems to fly under the radar because he plays on the worst team in the OHL. Apparently plays alot like Toews.

Drawing comparisons to Toews is very impressive.

I like Monahan's little fake that he's going to shoot, then passes it off, never really seen someone do it that way.

An interesting tweet within the article from AJ Jakubec, Ottawa 67's broadcaster:

"Final thought on Monahan. In 16 yrs covering JR, he and Logan Couture are the best pro prospects I've seen on a daily basis. Total package."

Extremely high praise for the young man.

Landeskog and Oreilly both have the potential to be #1 C's. Duchene took that step this year. I'd be quite comfortable moving forward with those three, assuming there was a coach in place who is not a buffoon.

Landeskog is a winger.

Yup but this is what caught my interest,
Quote:
Monahan’s two way game is amongst the best developed in this draft. His face-off ability is very good, and he was voted by OHL’s coaches as the 3rd best faceoff man in the Eastern Conference, impressive for a draft eligible player. He uses his size and strength effectively in the defensive end of the ice, and contains opponents off the cycle. He cuts down passing and shooting lanes, and is not shy about blocking shots. Monahan’s high effort level and commitment will make him NHL ready sooner rather than later.

Monahan’s game and style remind us of Eric Staal. He can be effective in all areas of the ice, in all situations, and make the players around him better. He plays a strong physical game as well. Potential wise, Monahan has everything necessary to say that his ceiling is as a point-per-game, first line NHL centre.
Potentially #1C and face-off specialists!

If the Bolts and Canes go to OT in their upcoming game, the Flames have a chance of picking Top 4... they have to lose all 4 on the road though, I think.

I predicted .500 for the last six games, but I didn't think they'd have wins against Detroit AND Anaheim. They might go 4-2.

The higher the Flames finish, in spots 24-30, the higher the chance they will actually not get moved down a spot after the draft lottery.

So, if they're drafting 6th pre-lottery, the top 5 have better odds of winning the lottery, and number 1 overall pick will probably come from that 5. Meaning someone will move up and down before 6th.

However the lower they finish the better their own chances of winning it are.

If somehow snuck in to 4th those aren't bad odds of winning it. Unlikely we finish there though, unless Nashville and Tampa suddenly start applying a concept that has become alien to them.
