Not a huge factor for a project of this magnitude.
I have no idea if its delayed etc
I doubt the costs have gone "sky high"

Steel and the related are up nearly 100% from this time last year. And it is not just that it is gone up in price, but lead times have also increased a lot so even just procuring material is tough right now.

All building materials have become more expensive recently, not just lumber. Though lumber is going pretty wild.
Why would the flames owners backing out of the arena deal = they want to move the flames? Could just be that the revenue situation from this season has made them reconsider how imminent the need is to spend ~250 million (I think that's right I dont remember) of their own money until the future situation becomes more clear.

My guess the Flames would not back out, if there are issues it would be the other participant.
There are lots of construction projects ongoing in the Calgary area.
Bridges, roads, schools, commercial subdivisions etc.
For example they are expanding the bridge (22x) over the river.
~ 40m to 80m project.

The absolute worse I can imagine happening is a delay in construction since they said it was suppose to begin this August.
|
Yeah, I cam to say this. I would imagine the deal would stay in place but they'd want to wait and see when fans will be back in the arena before building it.
Not much point in having an arena nobody can go into.
Also...and this is pure conjecture, but could it be that the Stampede Board has to bow out after 2 years of no revenue?
Is anyone optimistic that there is going to be a Stampede this year?

Wont it take 2-3 years to build? Safe to assume fans will be back in the seats by then. So why wait til August?

I was actually thinking it might be problems with the Stampede board. Interesting.
No point baselessly speculating about the worst possible outcomes when all we have is a single post on a development forum from a well connected (albeit a bit curmudgeony- sorry darwink if you're here too!) poster that was exceedingly vague.

Stampede Board not financially involved in the arena.
Asked around and haven't heard anything that leads me to believe there's substance to this.

I doubt the city is going to renege on their their obligation. The optics would look terrible, as it basically says the city can just arbitrarily pull out of a deal they've already negotiated. Plus, wouldn't employing a bunch of people to build this thing post pandemic be a good thing?
I'd be real pissed off if the city kyboshes this thing.

Well I am employed again ...
Not sure it would make much of a dent in the funding requirements though.
