Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie
MTL D Josh Gorges' name is out there in trade talk. TOR made a pitch for Gorges but no CDN team is on list of 15 teams he can be dealt to.

Man, I wish I could take a break from CP. So many posters think they are the smartest person in the room.
It's just not being a fan of drafting size for size sake. If Smith was a good offensive talent, then that's fine. However, when you look up video on him, the only ones that come up are him beating people up. That's basically what you're getting.

So getting a guy that pretty much caps out as a 3rd/4th line grinder is not a great use of a 2nd round pick.

None, Dallas just took him.

That's pretty low way to look at him. If you judge the other prospects around him as harshly you aren't coming up with much better alternatives.

Smith definitely has better than 3rd/4th line grinder potential and caps out much better than that. How likely it is that he gets to that ceiling could be debated but saying his top end is 3rd/4th line is just not true.

How about this then?

http://www.oshawagenerals.com/articl...er-of-the-week

I think he's a project who brings more than just size and toughness. A player that we should watch closely this year. A lot of fans wanted someone who was tough to play against and still brought some skill to the table, and Smith seems to fit that mold.

Has RW Ondrej Kase been picked yet? Might be a nicely skilled addition in the late rounds.

6'2" = midget?

I'm not saying we stop drafting tall players. I'm saying that height should be given a reduced weighting.

Or perhaps, as this analysis argues, no weighting at all.

He'll likely be an NHL player, it's just that you are more or less getting Brian Boyle. That's alright I guess. I'd just rather have taken a risk on getting someone that's more than a good depth guy in the 2nd round.

How about Teemu Lamsa as a pick in the 6th? 6'2" RH C. Finland kid. We like Finns.

http://www.hockeysfuture.com/prospects/teemu-lamsa/

Pickins are getting slim on RH d.

Or you are pretty much getting Milan Lucic.

Glad we took a chance on that than pick up a guy with Nathan Gerbe /Matt Gilroy upside.

Maybe we take Calgary kid Tanner McMaster with one of our late picks. Had good AJHL stats.

Is Kamenev available still. He might be an interesting pick.

Personally I would've taken Jack Glover with that pick, a 6-3.5 RH shooting two way defenseman who is quick on his feet.

It would've both addressed a need, and would have been a good sized player.
