Some of us just have an appreciation for truth, reality and honesty.
I don't quietly accept people indoctrinatng innocents into belief structures based in lies, mistruths, corruption and bull####. I don't accept it online and I don't accept in person to the extent people are willing to engage on the topic (in person I wouldn't attack a religious person or their religion if they didn't want to talk about it other than to say I'm areligious).

Yup I get that and I would feel the same as you in that situation. Those types don't seem to know a thing about what Christ taught and how he would have wanted us to treat people. Honestly I've never been embarrassed to be a Christian until the last few years watching all these idiots be the absolute worst examples.

That and you can leave religion whenever you’d like.

And precisely, in my opinion, why one should not affiliate with a religion but rather a faith. At least it separates one from toxic group-think and feeling ashamed of others’ decisions to a foundation of personal conviction/belief. You cannot change other peoples behaviours, so why feel ashamed? Because you identify yourself as one within the same group while having vastly different perspectives on the matter. It’s toxic, self-demeaning, and unhelpful for those who have faith. You’d cause yourself a lot less grief if one begins to think this way. Saying this as someone who doesn’t have faith.

Personal anecdotes? Well, I have a religious family, so between the two of us, the hundred or more times that religious views are thrust into my face by them and their friends or associates over the course of year even out to around 51 or 2 instances. You're welcome!

Also, i love the complete anti-logic that's required for Moneyguy's point.
It is true, physically speaking, that conditions in the universe have to be precise for it all to exist. A small example (pun intended) is that he strong force is tuned just precisely so to keep your atoms together but not make chemistry impossible. Or, alternately considered, strong enough that your atoms stay together without protons, neutrons and electrons whizzing around haphazardly in normal pressure/temperature.
But, that doesn't at all require a creator to tune. Unfortunately there is no way from our point of reference for us to determine it's not just all random interference of wave patterns, where our universe worked and another instance didn't. It only requires Infinity.
if you can marry your idea of god with the concept of infinity, then sure. But it is entirely certain that infinite probability doesn't give any sort of #### what you do in your existence. Or i guess kind of relies entirely on you acting any sort of way at all. Theres a mind#### in there if you think hard enough.

"The fact that Man desires, fortune, fame and power and has used religion to obtain these is more an indictment of these people, rather than religion itself."
I see a lot of people responding to this aspect. It is the reason I led with this in my initial post.
There is an adage of "If you do not stand for something, you will fall for anything", and having a faith based belief system is what many people adhere to so as to find meaning in their lives.
Are some easily taken down the wrong rabbit holes and are there people that will lead them there for their own benefit? Absolutely and that is not what I believe in.
I am not here trying to change anyone's belief system. I just wanted to start a different conversation than the one that was rampant on this thread and it looks as though that is happening.

In Junior High we studied a novel that involved a cult. Part of the study of said novel was taking a list of "signs you might be dealing with a cult" and analysing the cult in the novel with that list.
The list had a disclaimer that it would produce "false positives" for "legitimate" religions. Oh, really?

What has to happen for anyone to believe this crap? Much less sacrifice anything to help her?
