this isnt a thank you for a post but a thank you for a kind gesture.
I wanted to let everyone know that WesternCanadaKing was kind enough to donate his Texas Instrument TI 83 plus calculator to my daughter for school.
It was very kind of him to do that and its very much appreciated.
Thanks Western Canada King.
Many red squares to you!!!

That merits a custom title at least I think.

I don't know if any of the powers that be could consider this, and I certainly have no technical knowledge about this...

but can we do a "no thanks" button? I know everyone talks about it... but:

As for logistics of listing the posters who've said thanks/no thanks, we could just change that to say: "Users who have voted on this post" and then colour code the thanks black and the no-thanks red or something? Is this even possible? Or is it not even worth the effort? We could even have a plus minus score going on to keep it hockey themed.

The only downside of that is it's far easier for people to be negative than positive.

I wouldn't mind seeing a digg style rating system for every post, but that isn't available for this forum software.. And I'd change it so you can only give out half as many negatives as you've given positives or something like that.

So for now I think leaving it just positive is better.

I think we would start having 'thanks' wars....if there was a 'no thanks' feature.

While I would often like to give a stupid post a 'no thanks'....I think the way it is works fine.

Sometimes it is even funnier when someone gives a bad post a "Thanks". Well at least I laugh but I'm easily amused.

Well, I started a thread on getting a "No Thanks" button but apparently it has/is being discussed here...

... so I shall post what I posted in the other closed thread, here....

I never liked the old blue and red squares that rated a poster. I'm glad they're gone.

I do like the current "Thanks" button but wouldn't it be logical to have a "No Thanks" button also, that you can press if you disagree with or don't like a thread?

It might also save a lot of back and forth arguing and it also would allow someone to express their opinion without having to actually get into the whole post a response thing.

It would also give the poster some what of an idea where his opinion/post stands in the general CP community, particularly if he/she receives a lot of "No Thanks".

I know a lot of time I read something that I disagree with but I just don't have the time to say so in a post, or I just don't want to get into an argument with the poster... A "No Thanks" button would be perfect just for that type of situation.

P.S. Some people have said that having a "No Thanks" button will start wars. We have wars already.... as a result of some people quoting others and battling away. Having a "No Thanks" button may actually reduce the conflicts, IMHO.

And there lies my issue. Message Boards are discussion forums. Therefore you're supposed to have vibrant and divergent opinions. The 'Thanks' Button works great as a ditto button, or to tell a poster that you enjoyed their post. I don't see how we should more streamline thoughts to the 'general CP community". Who are we? The Borg?

I think the 'no thanks' button would just result in pettiness. We've already got a "Cp's Gone to Hell" thread (in the main forum, no less!) and I think a no thanks button would just encourage negativity.

Oh, and I would like to say that I have entirely gotten used to the appearance of CP with the thanks feature and no longer find it ugly or distracting.

No Thanks to No Thanks!

I'm not against the idea but could see where it could get out of hand.

It might be an option to really limit the number of "No Thanks" for each day. One or two? It would have to be a really stupid post for someone to want to waste their "No Thanks".

From what I understand each member gets certain amount of "thanks" each 24hour period. I think the number needs to get upped a bit.
I don't thank posts too often because normally I am just on CP as a guest. Sometimes I'll sign on in order to thank a post that I really liked & deem deserving of such. Essentially my point is that I don't thank that many posts in a typical day, thus I don't think I should ever run out of thanks, however just recently I happened to run out.
It was pretty frustrating, because there were still quite a few posts that I ran across that I felt deserving of a "thanks" and I couldn't give one. It would be too hard for me to remember each post and go back at a later date and give the thanks.

Yeah but won't that devalue "thanks". I agree that it can be frustrating but sometimes you just have to revoke that thanks and give it to the more deserving poster.

I just don't know how I'd feel if the value of the thanks people gave me wasn't part of their strict daily quota.
