Jeepers. Good call.

Add that to the mix.

Seems like this ‘crappy’ rebuild is actually going quite well.

The Flying Frenchmen not only aren't flying, they have only four players on the roster who were born in Quebec.

Since we're talking about team nicknames from the 1970s…

Between Wolf, Coronato, Zary, Bahl, Kerins, Pelletier, Honzek, Stromgren, Parekh, Grushnikov, Brz, Mews, Morin, Suniev, Gridin, Misa, Basha, Hoskin and Battaglia I think the Flames are going to be OK.

I think the most impressive "tell" when it comes to Wolf might be the W-L record.

16-7-2 behind this team is just mad.

Makes the big saves at important times and secures points.

A .680 points percentage. VGS is currently 3rd overall with a .663 percentage

I'm resigned to what's happening with this rebuild and yes it's amazing what we have in Wolf. But the history of this rebuild will ultimately be written on our ability to home grow, draft or trade for a minimum of two more elite players. Parekh could end up being one for sure.

But let's not get too cocky or condescending in claiming that we nailed this without bottoming out and acquiring superstar players through the draft.

The team has acquired one, and possibly two superstar players through the draft without bottoming out. Those posters who claimed that picking in the top 3 is the only way to get such players have a certain amount of condescension coming to them.

To be clear, this is not most of the pro-rebuild crowd. I'm in favour of a rebuild myself, and I think Conroy has been doing it in an intelligent way. It's just not his fault that the team isn't as bad as he set it up to be.

I'm really enjoying Wolf's play, and he's trending towards being a franchise goalie, but I have a hard time calling Wolf a superstar after half of a very good season. The goalie position is just that volatile IMO.

Also, the top 3 pick argument never really applied to goalies. Hellebuyck(drafted 130th), Shesterkin(118th), Bobrovsky(undrafted), Ullmark(163rd), Saros(99th), Swayman(111th), Demko(36th), Markstrom(31st), Oettinger (26th), Vasilevskiy(19th) and Sorokin(78th) probably cover all the goalie awards and nominees over the last few seasons.

But, in their draft year, if you could have drafted some of those guys high, you would have. I guess that's the point. Sometimes you get lucky.

It’s really just the centre position that is looking terrible. It is tough to overcome a lack of a #1C. Here’s hoping they struck some Point gold…

Yeah, it's way harder to find grade A centres who weren't drafted high. The list is short. It's usually two way guys who have a little more offence than, say, Backlund, that fit that small category. Outside of Point, you have guys like Bergeron, Datsyuk, ROR.

But right now a few of the top 20 centres are mid-first round or later. Miller (drafted as a C anyway), Point, Aho, Hintz, Larkin, Suzuki, Thomas.
