Can’t believe he got a 7 year deal. I always thought he was pretty good. But not a 7 year contract good.

Rick DePietro is only getting paid until 29-30. They need to at least having the possibility of having someone to buy out that will go beyond that, or else the communists win.

Vegas is an interesting team. They trade many draft picks and then just wait and grab prospects that have been developing in other organizations off of waivers to restock. They are a unique organization for sure. It's a lower reward approach to draft prospects but they have been able to acquire stars and near stars through trade.

Vegas had the best start to any franchise ever. That combined with their ability to pull any UFA makes it look easy. At some point it will catch up with them like any team.

It will catch up to them next year - where they will be terrible, and then win the draft lottery.

Not really. They obviously wanted him because they signed him, and when Boston took him, it left a hole on the AHL roster with Demko out who knows how long and Silovs in the bigs. Boston only took him as insurance against Swayman not signing.

And Vancouver claiming Patera back means they can now send him to the AHL without waivers, correct?

No one else making a claim is critical to that.
If anyone else makes a claim as well, he would have had to go back through waivers again.
