Then you wait. Vancouver with their injuries should be more desperate to acquire Zadorov than the Flames to move him. The return was not good enough to be squeezed into making a move now, they didn't give another team a chance to overpay by doing this now.

Honestly the only reason the Flames should be making this trade now is if they feel there is some need for them to open up that cap space now. Because there's really no other justification.

Personally feel like Zadorov should have returned at least a 2nd, he's better than the guys that returned a 3rd here.

No idea why you're making this trade now and not just waiting...unless you have another deal where you're taking on cap for some reason.

Or ... he's been a bit of a problem in the locker room and you'd rather address it with something that is close. And before someone attacks me - I'm not saying he's a problem. Just saying that this return suggests that waiting until the trade deadline was not an option for this team.

To be fair, the team can only retain on 3 contracts. Now they can still retain on Lindholm, Hanifin, and/or Tanev. All 3 will net more of a return.

Also, Calgary gets the full 3.75 in cap.

Underwhelming return but I also didn't think Zadorov would get as much as some others thought.

Not underwhelming enough to get upset over it and I am happy to see us move someone on that clearly needed to be moved. So overall ok move in my books.

Hopefully it is the start of many more of the bigger trades that need to be made getting done.

I actually think that Conroy didn't want to retain on Z, likely not an ownership decision, because he might want to retain on more important deals coming up. IMO it would have been a mistake to retain on Z.

Gio is out now out in Toronto as well, their defense is Riley, Brodie, Lagesson, Mccabe, Benoit and Timmins. BT would have been even more desperate. Yikes what a bad return and to Vancouver no less

underwhelming return. Zadorov isn't the best but would have been nice to get a mid-prospect instead of a late 5th rounder. Hopefully, the extra cap space gained was needed for something bigger coming...
