Maybe Zadarov was a problem in the room and that was the best offer and Conroy had to move him.

I don't know, I really like Solovyov and believe he's ready for a full time role with the big club.

Plus Gilbert and DeSimone and Oesterle can rotate easily.

I think people significantly overvalued what he would return.

He isn't that good and onto his 5th team now and never signed a deal longer than 2 years.

It sucks about the return but speaks to his value.

Horrible trade. Why would you make this trade in November?

I don't know. It isn't like Vancouver came to the table with a couple thirds and Conroy held the line until a 5th and 3rd were on the table. I think it kind of says something that the return is something that Conroy had to work for. I think what it shows is that any cap space is a premium since so many are at or above the cap. I guess the good news is that the Flames should be able to leverage cap space they have to eat some salary to make something work.

Really disappointing return.
Pending UFA looking for a big pay day, which is part of the equation.

I don't think it's a great return either though. I think they should have waited until closer to the deadline and some team likely would have over paid.

I am guessing his situation was becoming a bit of a distraction or something. I doubt the comradery between his teammates and Zadorov was great after the public trade request. You can thank his agent for this return.

Please tell me Kylington is close or something because otherwise our blueline looks hot-awful.

They can still sell off the cap space for another draft pick, say that gets us 2nd or 3rd? 2 3rds and a 5th? Meanwhile the team gets worse, and our 1st round pick gets better. Increases the value for Tanev with Zadorov off the market aswell.

Underwhelmed but with what Beauvillier went for we shouldn't be overly surprised.

Interesting that a top 5 player from Seravelli's trade bait list would go for a 5th and a 3rd 3 years from now, if that doesn't seem like underpayment idk what to tell you. Zadorov is what playoff contenders salivate for at the deadline, if he asked for a trade so what? Maximize value you owe him nothing.

2 picks for a disgruntled 5-6 Dman with a public trade request isn’t that bad. Especially with no retention or another contract this way. Z’s a very popular player due to his personality but that also makes people overrate what is really there. We were never going to get a 1st+ for him.

Let's use last couple trade deadline as a comparison:

Kulikov for McGinn, 3rd
Luke Schenn for 3rd
Kulak for 2nd, 7th, Lagesson
Justin Braun for 3rd
Travis Dermott for 3rd
Hamonic for 3rd

Personally feel like Zadorov should have returned at least a 2nd, he's better than the guys that returned a 3rd here.

No idea why you're making this trade now and not just waiting...unless you have another deal where you're taking on cap for some reason.

Yes, this is how I am viewing this positively. I am completely underwhelmed by the trade value, but I like the sign that adding draft picks signals. No roster players.

What were people expecting? a 2nd? 3rd and a 5th is close to that. Is it the Hawks 5th? Basically a 4th if so.

The win is he pulls off the trade this early rather than waiting to see if we can "make the playoffs"

What's the difference in drafting 40-60 overall vs 60 to 80?

Selling now can help this franchise much more than drafting 50th overall vs 70th overall.

Let's not forget Zads requested a trade. And was probably making a stink about it.

He didn't want to be in the room, he tanked his own value when his agent went public. This return isn't surprising.

I have to wonder if this was the best Conroy could get.

zadorov can go take a long walk on a short dock for making it public he wanted out, forcing our hand and reducing his value. Buddy was worth a second at least. Brutal.

Pick value aside, regular defenceman for futures doesn’t scream “playoffs at all costs”.

Should provide some comfort they won’t walk the big boys to UFA. Unless we are freeing up cap space for a bigger “win now” deal. That’d be bad.
