That push back in the 3rd was really good to see. After reading the ATL, I forgot that Mangipane was ejected in the first game. So him getting that game tying goal was grat to see, as it looked to have triggered some Kraken fans.
Points in last 8 games, and probably deserved at least one from that Dallas game. Crazy to think that after Wednesday, with a friendly OOT, the Flames can be in a playoff spot.

Missed the game. Nice to see Hubredeau’s point streak is continuing. Congrats to Mang on his 100th goal and Backs on his 500th point. Still undefeated in Seattle

We must be back in the Brent Sutter era. "The Flames lead the league in guys on pace for 15 goals"
I was actually thinking for a while that this team is constructed and reminds me of those days.
Wasn't there one season we had the most 20 goal scorers or something?
This is the second coming of the Ales Kotalik era.
It's really nice to see Huberdeau enjoying himself lately. I have hated on his play and the results, but really want to see him succeed. The positive vibes lately have to be good for everyone, so I hope he maintains it. I don't think it was easy on his peers to see him suffering.
One of the funny things with Huberdeau, is that he has a really good shot, but has always preferred to pass and set up plays. He scored a really nice goal the other night, and while the goal tonight wasn't highlight reel quality, it is still something to thread the puck through traffic and get it clearly on net. It would be pretty cool if Huberdeau reinvented himself as a more of a shooter and goal scorer. The Flames also have guys that bang in garbage goals if a player can get the puck through like that.
One thing I noticed with his shot on his goal yesterday, he sniped it. Yes, it as through traffic, but that flex and whip on his stick was noiiiiice.
Man, you can just tell... One of these days he's just gonna look right at the camera, and be like, "Yeah... I don't know what you want from us, man. Like, we're just no good."
As fun as it is to watch these “comeback kids” we still need to sell everything we can. Let’s not get tricked into thinking this team is good enough to be a contender.
Counterpoint: The team we saw in the first 2 mins of the game and the third period would have only had problems with Vegas in last years playoffs (in the west).
Mikael Backlund is the 531st NHL player to score 500 points in the league, moving into a tie with Ed Jovanovski on the all-time scoring list.
Just looking at the list for interesting names that he's near:
When he hits 501 he'll be tied with Bob Gainey, who hit that total in 1160 career games. (Backs is currently at 926 games.)
Hitting 514 points will tie him with Jere Lehtinen and 515 to tie Antoine Vermette.
518 will tie Tim Horton and put him 500th all time in NHL scoring.

Yeah, there is more than one way to look at this.
It could be that this team—the same team that was coming off of a season of historically low-levels of poor individual performances from multiple player—actually is good enough to be in the mix for the division, like a number of us predicted at the start of the season. It could be that those first 15 games had more to do with this team making major adjustment as they struggled to adapt to a new coaching staff, and a significantly different defensive system. Something else predicted by several posters. It could be that the rookie GM was right to bet on this group.

Neither? Don't give stupid retirement contracts out, don't walk your trade chips to free agency, and don't trade them for junk just because you can. Hated that trade the moment it was announced, one of those Jay Feaster trades where the team technically got younger and people lapped it up at first, but wasn't long before it became clear that they threw away a valuable asset to acquire magic beans.
Opportunity cost wasted.
So don't give him a retirement contract. - They didn't
Don't walk them to free agency. - They didn't
Which essentially means you have to trade him.
But wait ... don't trade him for crap, because that's likely what Conroy did. He took the same decision tree you did ... don't sign him, don't keep him until next summer, so I have to trade him and 4 other guys.
So far he's still in your class for GMing skills, right?
Where he went off the rails is when he purposely took a worse package than what was available to him to make people like you upset.
